Dear Members of the UMBC Community,
After 44 years of service with the State of Maryland and UMBC, Elmer Falconer, Director of Employment and Employee/Labor Relations, will retire from UMBC, effective June 30, 2019. Please join us in celebrating his career and outstanding service at an open house reception on Tuesday, June 4, 3 - 5 p.m. in the Library, 7th floor.
Elmer began his career at UMBC in 1994 as employment manager for the Department of Human Resources. He was promoted to assistant director and later to his current position of director of employment and employee/labor relations. Prior to joining UMBC, he worked as an investigator/negotiator of discrimination complaints at the Maryland Commission on Human Relations and then as director of personnel for the Maryland Correctional Pre-Release Program.
During Elmer’s tenure he has successfully worked with employees from recruitment to separation. He has helped numerous individuals launch their careers over the years by providing career guidance, job seeking skills and mentoring interns. As director, Elmer worked with employees by helping them better understand their rights and privileges and he also worked with management to successfully negotiate terms of discipline and separation. Elmer’s philosophy is to always have and show compassion.
We hope you will join us in expressing our gratitude for Elmer’s contributions to the UMBC community. Please stop by and wish him well.
