Dear Members of the UMBC Community,
UMBC’s Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) is open and working remotely to fulfill our commitment to make UMBC a safer and more inclusive living, learning, and working environment for all. OEI is continuing to build its capacity to serve our community. I am thrilled to share that we recently welcomed a new team member to our staff in the vitally important role of Title IX Coordinator.
Mikhel Kushner joined OEI on March 24. She previously served as the Executive Director of Diversity and Inclusion and Title IX Coordinator at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She is returning to the UMBC family; she served as the first Director of the Women’s Center from 2000 to 2009. Mikhel has a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work.
OEI’s growing team also welcomed B. Ever Hanna in February as UMBC’s Training and Case Manager. Ever holds a J.D. from Villanova University and a bachelor’s degree from Boston University. Previously, they served as the Policy Director for End Rape on Campus, a national survivor advocacy organization.
With this increased capacity, OEI has also launched a new online reporting form for community members to report incidents under the UMBC Sexual Misconduct (Title IX) Policy or the Anti-Discrimination Policy, which apply to all UMBC students, student employees, faculty, staff, interns, contractors, volunteers, guests, and visitors. OEI is also actively working on a new website and a robust training program.
We are also working closely with our partners on a national level to respond to expected changes in Title IX regulations. We will communicate how changes may affect our community when that information is available.
If you have questions, concerns, or need advice, please contact the office at oei@umbc.edu.
