Applications are invited for the position of Interim Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS).
The Interim Dean will lead a dynamic and diverse college that offers a broad portfolio of undergraduate and graduate programs and advances the University’s mission in research, scholarship, and creative achievement, (including community-engaged and interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching), teaching excellence, and service. The Interim Dean will serve as CAHSS’ chief academic officer and will direct the college’s management and business functions. The Interim Dean will work collaboratively with department chairs, program and center directors, faculty, senior leaders, and both internal and external stakeholders.
The Interim Dean will be committed to inclusive excellence and UMBC’s vision to “… redefine excellence in higher education through an inclusive culture that connects innovative teaching and learning, research across disciplines, and civic engagement. The Interim Dean reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, and is a member of the University’s senior leadership team. Candidates should possess a strong record of academic excellence and of supporting student success, experience in managing academic affairs, and should be familiar with, and dedicated to, inclusive excellence and UMBC’s tradition of shared governance and have a demonstrated record of putting those values into action.
Candidates for the position must be tenured full professors in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Applications should include:
- A current curriculum vitae in the UMBC format;
- A two-to-three page statement of the candidate’s understanding of the role of the Interim Dean and how they intend to address the challenges the college and the University will face in the coming year; and
- A statement describing the candidate’s commitment to inclusive excellence in higher education.
