Hello everyone!
March is now upon us and we are hosting a month of events known as "Media March!"
All of our discussion meetings Tuesdays (in the Queer Student Lounge, UC 201D) and Thursdays (in the Women's Center), both from 7:30pm to 9:00pm, will be themed around the LGBTQ community and how it relates to media. If you can attend, we encourage you to join us! The following will be our schedule for discussion meetings:
Thursday March 7th: LGBTQ Representation in Popular Culture
Tuesday March 12th: Transgender Stereotypes in Popular Culture
Thursday March 14th: LGBTQ Creators and their Media
Tuesday March 26th: How Fandom Treats Gender
Thursday March 28th: How Fandom Treats LGBTQ Topics
In addition to our meetings, we will be hosting two on-campus events during the month: one panel and one movie showcase.
Our panel will be an exploration of good and bad LGBTQ representation in media. This panel will be Thursday, March 14th from 5:30pm to 6:30pmĀ in Fine Arts 215.
We also will be showing (and discussing) the film Paris is Burning. Paris is Burning is a documentary following mid-to-late 80s ball culture and exploring the LGBT community surrounding it. We will be showing it in Public Policy 208 on Friday, March 29th from 2:30pm to 5:00pm.
We hope all of you are having a good semester and we hope to see you at our Media March events.
