Promotion & Tenure (P&T) policies and practices can vary from institution to institution and even from discipline to discipline within a single institution. Significant developments in technology, publishing models, understanding of unconscious bias, and the changing role of research and teaching in relation to global issues all present opportunities for re-assessing P&T policies and practices to ensure that they align with the values of today’s faculty and adequately reward scholarly output that may be evolving in terms of format and/or distribution methods.

As a tenured or tenure-track faculty member in the state of Maryland, your input will help inform our understanding of how well current P&T policies and practices in the state currently align with faculty values and what changes might be most desired. We are especially interested in how diversity, inclusion, equity, and open access are or could be incorporated into P&T policies and practices. The results of this survey will serve as a basis for future research that will explore similar perspectives at a national level.

The survey is expected to take approximately 15 minutes to complete. All answers will be anonymous and there are no foreseeable risks involved in participating in this study other than those encountered in day-to-day life. You can skip any questions other than the consent and immediately following question and you can end the survey at any time. This survey has been reviewed by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County Office of Research and granted an IRB designation of non-human subjects research.

We hope you will consider sharing your perspective.
