On the heels of the successful “AI, Privacy, and Ethics Symposium” of April 2024, we’re back with a new iteration! Please join us for this fall’s AI Symposium, titled “Exploring the Gadgets & Gizmos in Your AI Toolkit.” This fall’s series will highlight various topics ranging from Google Gemini and its integration into UMBC platforms, to the broader legal implications of using generative AI, and much more! This free symposium will be held virtually at noon via Webex on Wednesdays beginning October 1st through November 12th.

The Simons Foundation is now accepting applications for the Simons Graduate Fellowships in Ecology and Evolution. These prestigious fellowships support outstanding Ph.D. students pursuing innovative research in the fields of ecology, evolution, and related disciplines.
Who Should Apply?
Ph.D. students in the U.S. who have completed at least one year of graduate school and are conducting research that advances our understanding of ecological or evolutionary processes.

Deadline August 15th - 4 year Cancer Research Fellowship
Applications is open for Damon Runyon–St. Jude Pediatric Cancer Research Fellowship Award.
The Damon Runyon–St. Jude Fellowship supports bold early-career scientists conducting research with potential to transform the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of pediatric cancers.
Eligibility:
- Open to MD, PhD, MD/PhD, DDS, DVM, and DO holders
- Research must be directly relevant to pediatric cancer (no need to be a pediatrician)
- Application Deadline: August 15, 2025
- 4-year award | Starting at $70,000/year + expense & child allowances
Level 1 Candidates : Applicants with Degree conferred between August 15, 2022 - August 15, 2025 or Joined Sponsor's Lab on or after August 15, 2023.
Level 2 Candidates : (Board Eligible Physician-Scientists)- Applicants must apply within two years of ending their clinical fellowship and anytime prior to their initial assistant professorship appointment (or equivalent); postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, and clinical instructors are eligible to apply. Applicants cannot be in their Sponsor’s lab more than four years prior to the application deadline date. Applicants to include a copy of diploma.

Registration opens today for our final teaching development workshops of the summer 2025.
Reflect on your career journey and sources of support using a living document known as a mentor map in this two-session online workshop designed for graduate students at any stage in their career who want to reflect on their career journey and sources of support in that journey.
About this workshop
Mentoring is critical to career success and persistence, and building and understanding mentoring networks will help students to both feel more confident and have tools to be successful in their career journeys. In this workshop, participants will reflect on their career journey and sources of support in that journey using a living document known as a mentor map. Students will also reflect on their own journeys and how that journey may impact their current mentor map.
- Describe and identify the different roles that relationships play in their career journey
- Create a pathway map, a living document that can be used to reflect and assess the role they and others play in their professional and personal development

this summer. Parents, you can get summer camps reimbursed (read carefully the guidelines).
Backup Care offers a high quality, subsidized solution when your regular care is unavailable.
Daycare closed for vacation? Caregiver sick? Senior recovering from a fall? Care.com has flexible care options for kids and seniors, and helps you find the right care, whether through the Care.com network of vetted providers or using a preferred caregiver.
Your Care.com membership is paid for by UMBC, and employees are eligible for up to 5 days of subsidized backup care (new for FY 2026).
How it Works
1. Setup your account online or login through the app.
2. Search caregiver profiles, post a job, schedule interviews and request background checks.
3. Once you're ready to hire, easily schedule and pay your caregiver on Care.com.
Don’t have any childcare or eldercare needs? There are also hundreds of discounts you can access via the LifeMart Discount program, just by setting up your Care.com account.
