Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists 2025!
Application is now open
SciLifeLab and Science magazine/AAAS have joined forces in creating a global prize awarding the best PhD thesis work in life science in a bid to support young scientists early in their careers. An essay based on the thesis is submitted to the editorial board of Science and four winners are selected each year.
As a winner, you will have your essay published by Science, receive up to 30,000 USD and be invited to Sweden where you receive your award, present your research and meet with leading scientists in your field. The award banquet is held in the Hall of Mirrors at Grand Hôtel, the original venue of the Nobel Prize.
The prize is awarded annually to one young scientist for outstanding life science research for which they were awarded a doctoral degree in the previous two years. The topic of the entrant's thesis research must be in one of the following categories: Cell and Molecular Biology; Genomics, Proteomics, and Systems Biology approaches; Ecology and Environment; Molecular Medicine. Eligible entrants must have been awarded their doctoral degree in 2023 or 2024, and the subject of their thesis should match one of the Subject Tracks. The winners from each category will compete for the grand prize.
Prize money: USD 30,000 for the grand prize winner, USD 10,000 for each of the category winners.
All federal, state and local taxes, and any other costs and expenses associated with the receipt or use of the prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.
Publication: The grand prize-winning essay will be published in Science, and essays from the each of the category winners will be published online.

I am excited to let you know that we have officially relaunched
GradSense, a website designed to provide current and prospective graduate students with essential financial information on a variety of topics, including the value of pursuing an advanced degree.
In September 2024, CGS received new funding from
TIAA to update and expand the promotion of GradSense to help students make informed decisions about their educational and financial futures. The relaunched site features a variety of exciting updates, including an updated debt and salary calculator that helps students better understand the return on investment for different types of degrees.
As part of our outreach efforts, we will be sharing the updated GradSense site with
National Name Exchange students. We have also created a
GradSense Toolkit that you may wish to use in promoting GradSense with your current or prospective students. I encourage you to forward this message and share the toolkit with your staff and administrators, program directors, student organizations, admissions offices, career centers, advisors, etc., to help students who are considering graduate school.

Calling For the Integrated Training Program in Vaccinology (ITP-Vax) applications!
ITP-Vax Program Overview:
The Integrated Training Program in Vaccinology (ITP-Vax) is a novel training program that will give college graduates and master’s level graduate students a 9-month research experience with mentorship from Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD) investigators. Trainees will learn concepts in vaccinology and receive professional development skills.
Trainees will also receive hands-on experience to help equip them for future success in a career in vaccinology.
The ITP-Vax is looking to enroll college graduates and master’s level graduate students for this coming Fall 2025.
Eligibility Criteria:
• Undergraduate degree (or anticipated degree) in a vaccinology related field, e.g., microbiology, immunology, genetics, epidemiology, public health
• Seeking admission to a PhD or MD program within two years
