As we prepare for the start of the Fall 2020 semester, please find below some tips to assist in answering the most common questions:
1. When will my “Pending Aid” apply to my student bill?
“Pending Aid” is automatically posted to student accounts prior to the start of each semester through Student Business Services (SBS). Fall 2020 aid will disburse to student accounts automatically beginning August 17, 2020 for full-time enrolled students and continue every Tuesday thereafter.
Pending Aid for students enrolled part-time will disburse beginning September 15, 2020.
If there is a balance due after any pending aid is applied for the semester, the student will be responsible to pay the balance no later than the 20th of the month indicated on the student e-Bill.

2. What happens to any remaining financial aid and scholarship funds after my bill is paid?
If financial aid & scholarships exceeds the balance on the student account, Student Business Services (SBS) will process a refund via the method selected by the student with their office. Typically, refunds will be processed within a few days of financial aid disbursement. The length of time it may take to receive a refund also varies depending upon the refund method selected. Typically, e-refunds are available sooner than paper checks. You can find more information on this process here.
3. Can I apply for additional scholarship opportunities at UMBC?
Yes! You may apply through Scholarship Retriever at umbc.academicworks.com. New opportunities are posted throughout the academic year; therefore, we encourage students to actively check back for new scholarships posted.
4. How do I report external or private scholarships I am receiving to UMBC?
Any external, non-UMBC scholarship should be reported to our office so we may update the student account accordingly. The Private Scholarship Notification form may be completed online here.
5. When is the last day to add or drop courses without reflecting as a “W” withdraw on my transcript?
The last day to Add or Drop a Fall 2020 course is: September 10, 2020
