  <Title>MIPAR Researchers Receive International Award</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><span>The International Center of Mental Health Policy and Economics has awarded UMBC researchers David Salkever (Public Policy) and Brent Gibbons (Ph.D., '13, Maryland Institute for Policy Analysis and Research), along with co-authors Robert E. Drake, William D. Frey, Thomas W. Hale, and Mustafa Karakus, an Excellence in Mental Health Policy and Economics Research Award – 2015 for the article "Increasing Earnings of Social Security Disability Income Beneficiaries with Serious Mental Disorder." The article, which was published in the Journal of Mental Health Policy and Economics 2014; 17 (2): 75-90, reports the results of MIPAR research conducted in collaboration with Westat for the Social Security Administration. The award will be presented on March 27 in Venice, Italy at the Twelfth Workshop on Costs and Assessment.<br></span></div>

    <Title>Research Highlight: Health Policy</Title>

          <div class="html-content"><p></p><p><span>The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded a 3-year, $750,000 grant to David Salkever (Public Policy), the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative™ (GHHI), and The Hilltop Institute at UMBC to conduct a cost benefit analysis of the reduction in asthma and associated Medicaid expenditures resulting from the implementation of GHHI interventions.<br><br>GHHI is a national program spearheaded by the Coalition to End Childhood Lead Poisoning. GHHI integrates health-based housing interventions with weatherization to create access to healthy homes for children in low income neighborhoods.<br><br>In addition to principal investigator David Salkever, the research team includes Michael Abrams of The Hilltop Institute, Ruth Ann Norton, Executive Director of the Coalition to End Childhood Lead Poisoning/GHHI, and researchers from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. <br></span></p></div>
