Congratulations to Jennifer Callaghan-Koru for receiving a grant from the National Institutes of Health (the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development) for her work titled, "Factors that influence the implementation and effectiveness of a patient safety bundle to reduce low-risk cesarean deliveries."
Professor Callaghan-Koru's work examines unnecessary cesarean delivery as an important contributor to preventable maternal morbidity and mortality. Her study will identify factors that differentiate between high- and low-performing hospitals in terms of implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs) for reducing cesarean delivery and rates of cesarean delivery. By studying a statewide quality improvement collaborative with 31 diverse hospitals, this research will advance our knowledge regarding factors that contribute to high adoption of EBPs and low cesarean delivery rates.
