Once again, in January, 2013, the New Media Studio offered its annual digital storytelling workshop for faculty. As in past years, the workshop gave participants an opportunity to explore digital media production while creating a personal narrative, integrating voice-over with images and sound.

February Library Book Sale

We aren't having a book sale in January, but we will be welcoming everyone back with a February book sale.
Items sold include books, CDs, LPs and more! Prices generally range from $.25 to $5 with some individually priced items. We accept cash or checks - sorry, no credit cards. Proceeds will be used to purchase new library materials and equipment.

New resources at the Library
The Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery is pleased to announce the addition of two electronic collections for the UMBC community.
ARTstor Digital Library provides access to over 1 million images in the arts, architecture, humanities and sciences. These images are hi-resolution and may be downloaded and used for classroom and research purposes.
ScienceDirect’s Freedom Collection contains the full text of over 1,700 social science, science, medical, and technology journals published by Elsevier.

5th International Digital Storytelling conference - Ankara, Turkey May 8-10, 2013

Library Carpeting Project - (1/3 - 1/18)
Possible Service Disruptions
Services on the first floor of the Library will be relocated and, hopefully, not significantly disrupted, while contractors replace the carpet, beginning Thursday, January 3, and continuing through Friday, January 18, 2013. Computers will be removed from the area beginning January 2 but will continue to be available on floors 2-7 and in the RLC. Please watch for signs directing users to temporary service locations. All Library services will continue during the carpeting project. Printing service will continue to be available in the RLC and on the 2nd and 7th floors. Scanning service will be available on the 2nd floor. The Technology Support Center will be located in room 216.
In preparation for the carpet installation, public computers on the 1st floor will be moved to the Gallery for storage beginning on Dec. 20.
The Library carpet was installed in 1995. Now 17 years old, it has survived longer than expected, especially considering the high traffic on the first floor. It will now be replaced with carpet tile of similar design and color to the carpet tile which was recently installed on the 7th floor.

The Library will be open from Dec. 6 - 21 for your studying convenience:
Monday - Thursday: 8 am - 2 am
Friday: 8 am - 10 pm
Saturday: 10 am - 10 pm
Sunday: 12 Noon - 2 am
Service will only be available at the Circulation Desk during the extended hours. All other service desks will close at their normal time.
Also, the Atrium and the Retriever Learning Center (RLC) are always open. RLC access is by UMBC ID card swipe only.
