1 Million Cups Baltimore Launches THIS WEDNESDAY!

1 Million Cups (1MC) is a national program to engage, educate and connect local entrepreneurs. Founded by the Kauffman Foundation, 1 Million Cups is based on the notion that entrepreneurs network, collaborate and discover solutions over a million cups of coffee. The free, weekly gathering helps build and support startup communities on a grassroots level. The inaugural event will take place on Wednesday March 15th at 9am at OCA Mocha in Arbutus.

Subsequent events will be held the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month and are always free and open to the public.

Money Power Day

Money Power Day is the region's largest financial fitness fair and will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Poly-Western High School in Baltimore City. There will be a Credit Cafe, Financial Planning Zone, workshops, the return of the Pitch Your Side Hustle contest, and much more! For more information, click here!

WIB-Capital Region: Watch Party for Driving Innovation and Entrepreneurship-The I-Corps Program

On March 22nd, WIB-Capital Region, the University of Maryland Graduate Research Innovation District,(GRID), and WIB-RTP will come together to learn more about ICORPS. The I-Corps program is an innovation training program created by the National Science Foundation that supports researchers seeking to increase the impact of their scientific discoveries. Faculty and student researchers who participate in the program learn how to evaluate the commercial potential of their innovations through hands-on training that allows them to test their business hypotheses about how innovation may be used to provide impact in the real world.

This is a hybrid event which can be attended in person or virtually. Click here to learn more.

  • Techstars Equitech Accelerator is hosting their Investor & Demo Day on Tuesday, April 4th in Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium. They are seeking student volunteers to participate in the execution of this event, which runs from 8am-8pm. This is a great opportunity for students who want to see entrepreneurship in action, network with fellow students and entrepreneurs, and to provide support to Baltimore's growing tech sector. During his presentation titled, "How to Give a Good Pitch", Stephen will discuss basic communication skills that are required for a successful pitch, a detailed description of the slides that you should include, and ten steps to make your pitch more competitive. The talk also will include some fun examples of what to do and what not to do in a pitch, and it will include some interesting data from a study that will give insight into what investors focus on in a pitch. This information will be helpful for those preparing a pitch for the Cangialosi Business and Innovation Competition Pitch competition or for anyone interested in pitching to investors. Students, faculty, alumni, and members of the business community are welcome to attend! FREE snacks will be provided!

"How to Give a Good Pitch" Workshop

Have you ever wondered what a good pitch consists of? This workshop is for you! 

On Wednesday, March 8th from 12-1pm in Commons 331, Stephen Auvil, the Chief Program Operations Officer at TEDCO will be joining us! During his presentation titled, "How to Give a Good Pitch", Stephen will discuss basic communication skills that are required for a successful pitch, a detailed description of the slides that you should include, and ten steps to make your pitch more competitive.

The talk also will include some fun examples of what to do and what not to do in a pitch, and it will include some interesting data from a study that will give insight into what investors focus on in a pitch. This information will be helpful for those preparing a pitch for the Cangialosi Business and Innovation Competition Pitch competition or for anyone interested in pitching to investors. Students, faculty, alumni, and members of the business community are welcome to attend! FREE snacks will be provided!

CBIC Application

The Alex. Brown Center's Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is an opportunity for UMBC students who are serious about starting a business or social impact venture to pitch their idea to a panel of judges to win money to help launch their venture. The CBIC submission form is now available on our website. We can't wait to hear your ideas! The deadline for submission is March 6th at 1pm! There's only a few days left to submit your idea!
