    <p><span>companies from idea to acquisition.  It will also include crowdfunding,</span></p>
    <p><span>specifically GoFundMe and Kickstarter.  Don’t miss it!</span></p>
    <br><p><span>A little bit about John Kirby:</span></p>
    <br><p><span>John has worked the majority of his business career as an entrepreneur in</span></p>
    <p><span>small and midsize companies.  Along the way, he founded and sold two</span></p>
    <p><span>companies.  A highlight was the sale of reachNET, a company he co-founded. </span></p>
    <p><span>The company developed a wireless TTY for the deaf community and was sold</span></p>
    <p><span>in 2001 to Telecommunication Systems (NASDAQ: TSYS).</span></p>
    <br><p><span>He and his teams have mentored tech companies, been involved in tech</span></p>
    <p><span>transfer from government and education to the private sector and assisted</span></p>
    <p><span>veteran-led companies.  John’s current company is Boat School Ventures,</span></p>
    <p><span>which mentors and raises capital for early stage startups.  He is also an</span></p>
    <p><span>Adjunct Professor teaching Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland</span></p>
    <p><span>Baltimore County (UMBC).</span></p>
    <br><p><span>John was born and raised in Catonsville MD, and earned a BS degree from</span></p>
    <p><span>the United States Naval Academy and an Executive MBA from Loyola</span></p>
    <p><span>University.  He is a veteran having served five years in the US Marine</span></p>
    <p><span>Corps.</span></p>

    <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>Attention all aspiring entrepreneurs!</span></p>
    <p><span> Do you have an idea for a company or social impact venture? Are you ready to try out something new, take risks, and be your own boss? If you answered yes, then the Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is the perfect opportunity to do so! CBIC is a competition exclusively for UMBC students that awards up to $5,000 in cash prizes in BOTH the Technology and Innovation track AND the Social Impact track.</span></p>
    <br><h4><span>What is the CBIC?</span></h4>
    <br><p><span>The Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is a unique opportunity for UMBC graduate and undergraduate students who are serious about starting a business or social impact venture.  Participants will experience the process of planning a startup business by submitting a competitive and realistic 3-5 page business plan, which will be judged by members of the Baltimore Angels (real investors!).  Qualifiers will present their ideas in a final competition, where cash prizes will be given out.</span></p>
    <br><h4><span>Prizes:</span></h4>
    <br><p><span>First Prize= $3,000</span></p>
    <p><span>Second Prize = $2,000</span></p>
    <p><span>Third Prize = $1,000</span></p>
    <br><p><span>Cash prizes are available to the top 3  winners in both the Technology and Innovation track and the Social Impact Track.  </span></p>
    <br><p><span>After a 6-month review, an additional $2,000 is available to one of the top winners.</span></p>

          <div class="html-content">The Dresher Center for the Humanities invites applications for two Graduate Student Research Fellowships for the 2019-20 academic year. One fellowship will be awarded for fall 2021 and one for spring 2022. Funding is intended to support and promote promising humanities research by graduate students at UMBC.<br><br>The fellowships are open to all UMBC doctoral and master's level students working on humanities-related research projects that will culminate in a dissertation or master's thesis.     The Dresher Center for the Humanities, in conjunction with the College 
    of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) and the Vice President 
    for Research, invites applications for Dresher Center Summer 
    Fellowships. Proposals are welcome from all full-time, tenured or 
    tenure-track UMBC faculty as well as full-time professors of the 
    practice pursuing humanities research in the College of Arts, 
    Humanities, and Social Sciences. Funding is intended to support and 
    promote significant humanities research at UMBC. Fellows will receive 
    support for summer research and the completion of a book manuscript, a 
    major article, or a project of similar stature. Funding may also be used
     for assistance in developing extramural funding applications, including
     grant and fellowship applications, and book proposals.<br>

    Applications will be reviewed by the Dresher Center Advisory Board. 
    Fellows (individuals or groups) will receive $6,000 per award. Between 
    one and three fellowships will be awarded.<br>
