On Thursday, April 20th, The Alex. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ABCEI) hosted its annual Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition. The 2023 event included seven finalist teams, which consisted of undergraduate and graduate students from various majors from UMBC. Read about the incredible, winning ideas from the 2023 CBIC here!
The University System of Maryland Launch Fund
The University System of Maryland (USM) Launch Fund connects early stage entrepreneurs - builders, creators, and innovators - to existing resources, mentorship, and capital. It creates a new capital source for USM-affiliated ventures. Applications are due by May 16 for funding for (for-profit or nonprofit) ventures in the form of grants and investments up to $50k. Maryland New Venture Fellowship Pitch Night at BWTech

Maryland's Climate Tech Pre-Accelerator: Summer 2023
The Maryland Climate Tech Pre-Accelerator is a unique opportunity to test if your climate-tech research and ideas have commercial viability through a startup journey. The exciting agenda of the Pre-Accelerator will have you work on the following elements for your potential venture:
- Understand if you are personally ready for the startup journey
- Provide a deep understanding of potential target markets for your idea
- Give you an understanding of potential business models to be successful
- Provide a commercialization path that includes potential funding sources, such as grants, equity, bank financing, or sweat equity.

ICPSR Short Workshops
Statistical and Quantitative Methods for Data Analysis
Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) Summer Program short workshops feature instruction in a specific statistical technique or research method over the period of a week or two. They offer short workshops in a range of topics, including machine learning, mixed methods, causal inference, quantitative methods to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion, and more.
For online short workshops, you can participate synchronously via Zoom or watch lecture recordings asynchronously at your convenience. ICPSR also offers several in-person short workshops for those topics that rely on in-person learning and collaboration. In ICPSR short workshops, you’ll have direct access to exceptional faculty, as well as extended access to lecture recordings and workshop materials until December 31, 2023.
UMBC is a member of ICPSR so anyone affiliated with UMBC attend at the member price.

What a night! Last Thursday night, The Alex. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ABCEI) hosted its annual Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition. The 2023 event included seven finalist teams, which consisted of undergraduate and graduate students from various majors from UMBC. The Alex. TONIGHT is the CBIC Final Event! The Alex. Brown Center will host a reception at 6pm and the final event will begin at 7pm in the Skylight Room. You're invited to join us for this amazing event of networking, community, food, and good ideas!
This event showcases the finalists from this year's competition entries. The CBIC is an opportunity for UMBC students who are serious about starting a business or social impact venture to pitch their idea to a panel of judges to win money to help launch their venture.
A networking session with heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be held prior to the event for attendees to meet alumni entrepreneurs, fellow students and community members interested in entrepreneurship. See the flyer below for more details about the CBIC!

We are only 2 days away from the CBIC Final Event and you're invited!!! The final event will be held THIS THURSDAY, April 20th so be sure to mark your calendars!
This event showcases the finalists from this year's competition entries. The CBIC is an opportunity for UMBC students who are serious about starting a business or social impact venture to pitch their idea to a panel of judges to win money to help launch their venture.
A networking session with heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be held prior to the event for attendees to meet alumni entrepreneurs, fellow students and community members interested in entrepreneurship. For more details about the CBIC, see the flyer below!
