Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, the incumbent performs
moderately complex accounting clerical or bookkeeping tasks to support
accounts payable/receivable and auditing function. Post journal entries,
process payments, and verifies accuracy of data.
Specific duties include: inputting data, records
and verifies details of financial transactions in ledgers and automated
systems; review and process financial documents such as invoices and
receipts; purchase of all supply request and receiving of Goods and
Services for the Library; inputting and retrieving financial
transactions into a shadow system (QuickBooks) for monthly
reconciliation and other reports; retrieve and process order from the
Accounting and Receiving RT system; back up to the Accounting Associate
with picking up paychecks and writing receipts for departments with the
Library; and perform other duties as assigned, including serving as back
for other staff in the department.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- One year accounting clerical experience.
- Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles, mathematical methods and techniques.
- Skilled in performing basic mathematical computations and the use of calculator.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to operate keyboards, personal computers and financial software
- Ability to prepare written records and reports
- Ability to input data accurately
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic Knowledge of QuickBooks
- Strong computer skills with excel, word, Google docs and Box

Bibliographic and Metadata Services Unit, perform database maintenance
for Library collections in several databases for materials including but
not limited to serials, monographs, and nonprint materials.
Specific duties include: weeding and transferring
materials; creation/editing of holdings statements; working with system
reports which entails problem solving, reviewing of regular reports,
responding to requests for assistance, and coordinating work with other
departments; performing copy cataloging in several databases including
Aleph, ContentDM, and OCLC for a variety of materials; creating non-MARC
metadata descriptions of a variety of materials and; performing other
duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and one year of library experience directly related to the primary duties of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in Technical Services performing database maintenance work
- Experience with library systems such as ContentDM and OCLC
- Experience working with Ex Libris products preferably Aleph

Responsibilities:
As part of the Library Information Technology Services (LITS) division,
the I.T. Librarian oversees the daily operations of IT support and AV
services for staff computing as well as AV deployment in the Library
& Gallery. Works closely with DolT in management of the Library's
public computing and AV resources. This position works collaboratively
in a diverse and inclusive environment with librarians and staff, both
inside and outside of the Library & Gallery, to implement effective
and equitable technological solutions including assistive technologies
and to identify current and emerging technologies to meet the evolving
needs and expectations for an academic library environment. Assesses and
documents condition and use of technologies in the building; makes
recommendations on existing and emerging technology and resources based
on gaps in meeting user needs and emerging trends. The IT Librarian is
responsible administering and maintaining library applications
including, but not limited to, ILLiad, CONTENTdm, Connexion, Ares,
Aleph, and EBSCO Discovery Services (EDS). In addition, the IT Librarian
supports efficient use of technology for employees in the Library &
Gallery including through management and training for various systems,
development of best practices for document management and use of cloud
systems, and development of procedures and training for other topics as
needed. The position also assists with the coordination and continued
development of local digitization projects and with defining and
implementing the Library & Gallery's digital preservation strategy.
This position also manages and maintains servers for storage and
backups. Other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school or information science program
- Knowledge of computer workstations, networking, and computer security.
- Knowledge of web client and server applications, databases, and Web programming environments.
- Knowledge or experience working with integrated library systems and
the application of technology to enhance effectiveness in library
operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of technology trends, standards, information technology best practices, and issues in academic libraries.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of information technology principles,
processes, systems and standards, including operating systems, systems
security, wireless networking, and digital initiatives and emerging web
technologies.
- Demonstrated experience in progressively responsible supervisory positions, managing multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in computer science or related field
- Demonstrated experience with system administration and network administration.
- Experience working with digital repositories or working to develop projects that support locally digitized scholarly content.
- Experience leading projects or implementing new technologies, preferably in an academic library environment.
- Experience with Ex Libris products

Position is a 12-month library faculty
appointment at anticipated rank of Librarian II. Minimum salary:

IPA [International Phonetic Alphabet] Source was developed to benefit singers, teachers, and all those interested in the correct and knowledgeable performance of vocal literature.
What started in 2003 as a support site for students in a university diction class has grown into the largest collection of literal translations and International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) transcriptions on the web. The goal of IPA Source is to promote the comprehension and accurate pronunciation of foreign language texts in art song and opera in order that the singer may imbue each syllable with the appropriate emotional content.

This online exhibit accompanies an exhibition presented at UMBC’s Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery from August 28–December 18, 2019. The exhibition represents the first retrospective of the artist’s career in over thirty years.
Created between 1962 and 2006, the works reproduced online are drawn entirely from the Robert W. Fichter Archive at UMBC. The selection highlights the artist’s experimental approach to examining the human condition. Employing shifting moods and mediums as well as wit, humor, and satire, Fichter delivers trenchant critiques of war, nuclear proliferation, and environmental disaster. Firmly rooting his expressive compositions in a strong sense of place—the surreal landscapes of his native Florida—he presents a singular vision of humanity on the brink.
The exhibition Experimentalist: The Art of Robert Fichter was curated by Tom Beck, Curator Emeritus. The presentation at the Library Gallery was organized by Beth Saunders, Curator and Head of Special Collections.

Ares integration with Blackboard
The Kuhn Library now provides access to course reserves through Ares from Atlas Systems; this new software seamlessly integrates with Blackboard (Bb) for streamlined availability and processing. Instructors who wish to submit course reserves requests and students who want to access their faculty reserves listings can now do so directly from their course site in Bb.
