    <div class="html-content"><strong>Note: This job listing has closed.<br><br>Job no:</strong> 492569<br><strong>Work type:</strong> Librarian Faculty - 3/4 Time<br><strong>Location:</strong> UMBC Campus<br><br>We seek an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented individual to work as subject librarian in the humanities and to provide general reference assistance to the UMBC community. The successful candidate is expected to provide a wide range of reference, instructional, and outreach services to students, faculty, and staff. This position will work closely with the Instruction Coordinator to design and deliver library curriculum and instruction activities for first-year courses, including English 100 and Introduction to an Honors University seminars. Duties include providing library instruction, outreach, collection development, and research support to students, faculty and staff. As part of a department of six faculty librarians and one support staff, this position provides general reference service to the campus community (including shared evening and weekend hours) and participates in the planning and implementation of departmental operations. As an instruction librarian, this position designs and delivers library curriculum and instruction activities and contributes to the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Library’s information literacy and instructional program.<br><br><strong>REQUIREMENTS:</strong><br><ul><li>    Master of Library &amp; Information Science degree (or equivalent ALA accredited degree)</li><li>    Demonstrated ability and interest in providing dynamic library instruction and contributing to a team-based information literacy program</li><li>    Demonstrated ability and interest in the areas of library public services and outreach</li><li>    Demonstrated high-quality written and verbal communication</li><li>    Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team</li><li>    Ability to initiate and lead projects to completion</li><li>    Interest and/or experience working with diverse populations, particularly students</li><li>    Undergraduate or advanced degree in a humanities discipline preferred</li><li>    Reference experience in an academic library setting preferred</li><li>    Direct teaching or library instruction experience preferred</li></ul><br><strong>SALARY AND BENEFITS:  </strong><br>Position is a ¾ time (30 hours/week), 12-month library faculty appointment at anticipated rank of Librarian I.     <div class="html-content"><strong>Job no:</strong> 492566<br><strong>Work type:</strong> Temporary/Contingent I<br><strong>Location:</strong> UMBC Campus<br><strong>Categories:</strong> Library<br><br><strong>Responsibilities:</strong>     <br>The incumbent will be responsible for general maintenance of the print serials collection, assisting with planning and implementation of shifts.  Using various library automated systems, the incumbent will perform searches to help identify items for deselection. The incumbent is expected to assist users, shelve, maintain all equipment as well as perform other duties as assigned.  This position reports to the Chief Serials Technician.<br><br><strong>Required Minimum Qualifications: </strong>    <br>Requires a High School Diploma or GED; Library or clerical experience desirable.<br><br><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong>      <br>Must have good organization and communication skills; detail oriented, self-motivated, flexible; demonstrate the ability to work independently; proficient with word processing applications. Familiarity with Excel spreadsheets would be preferable.  This position requires physical labor—lifting and pushing loaded book trucks.<br><br><strong>Background Screening Statement: </strong>    <br>A background check may be required.  <br><br><strong>Screening of Applications Begins:</strong><br>For best consideration, submit application by November 10, 2017 (resumes will be accepted until position is filled).<br><br><strong>Salary:</strong> $16.10 per hour, 30-40 hours per week<br><br><strong>Hours:</strong> M-F 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. subject to change depending on the needs of the Library.<br><br><strong>Additional Information:</strong> This is a temporary position.  Initial contract is for (6-Months) with the possibility of renewal. <br><br><strong>FLSA Status:</strong> Nonexempt <br><br><strong>Equal Opportunity Statement: </strong><br>UMBC is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.     <Title>Fines happen. What&#8217;s the next step?</Title>

          <div class="html-content">We’ve all been there - sometimes the date slips your mind, and next thing you know you’ve got overdue library books!  So what happens next?<br><br>First off: don’t panic!  The fine for late books or DVDs is only $0.50 per day!  Other fines, like for laptops and equipment, are a little higher.  You can check the full list of fine amounts here: <a href="http://library.umbc.edu/circulation.php#fees" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">http://library.umbc.edu/circulation.php#fees</a>  <br><br>If you can’t get to the library immediately, try <a href="http://catalog.umd.edu/patron=go" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">renewing the item</a>.  You’ll still have the original fines, but you’ll stop accruing more.  (Note: not all items can be renewed.  For example, a recalled book cannot be renewed this way.  But it’s worth a try!)<br><br>When you’re ready to pay your fine, head to the Check Out Desk. Payment options are Campus Cash, credit card, or check. (Note: you can only pay your bill at the library for the first 30 days.  After that, the Student Business Office takes over.)<br><br>Do you have a question about your fine?  You can contact the Circulation Department for answers at 410-455-2354.           <div class="html-content">Food is allowed in AOK Library and the RLC.  Drinks are too, but in a covered container please!  We do ask that you avoid pricey equipment like photocopiers, printers, computers, microform readers, the Digital Media Lab, and Special Collections.<br><br>Spills sometimes happen - please clean up as best you can and alert library staff so they can check books and furniture for damage. Paper towels are available in the bathroom if you need them.<br><br>And when you’re finished, toss your trash in a bin!  There are several on each floor.  Happy studying!<br><br></div>
