Archivist/General Associate, Special Collections

Department:	The Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County
Responsibilities:	The Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery at UMBC is seeking a Maryland Traditions Archivist/General Associate for special collections. Responsibilities include: Processes new and existing archival collections preserved within the Maryland Traditions Archives at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), which are generated through the regular activity of the Maryland Traditions folklife program of the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) and its constituents. Following department and professional standards, the Maryland Traditions Contract Archivist: Creates finding aids compliant with archival metadata standards; develops detailed inventories of materials; catalogs materials for archival and research use; drafts finding aids for the collections; re-houses materials in accordance with archival best practices; identifies materials in need of preservation; and integrates collections previously held at MSAC, MDSA, and regional folklife centers into unified collections at UMBC. Maintains and keeps updated master inventory of materials processed to date and inventory of materials to be processed. Manages the Maryland Folklife at UMBC website and assists with promotion for ongoing projects under the UMBC Maryland Folklife Network grant.
Required Minimum Qualifications:	At the time of appointment, an ALA-accredited Master's degree in Archives or Library/Information Science with an emphasis on formal archival education and training, OR a Master's degree in history, American Studies, or other relevant discipline, with experience in archives, archival course work, or archival certificate. Early career archivists encouraged to apply. One year of experience working in an archives, special collections, or comparable setting (may include as an intern, volunteer, or student worker). Familiarity with EAD, DACS, and other archival standards. Excellent computer skills, including experience with a collection management system such as ArchivesSpace or PastPerfect. Physical ability to lift archival boxes weighing up to 40 pounds and to push a loaded cart weighing up to 200 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:	At least six months of archival processing experience. Demonstrated ability and initiative in reference, outreach, and instruction. Demonstrated knowledge of creating and managing digital content. Supervisory and project management experience
