Position Summary
Reports to Chief Operation Officer and Chief Curator
The Peale seeks an innovative creative to oversee exhibitions and projects in the newly-renovated Peale Museum building and online. The Peale is a community museum located in Baltimore, Maryland, and a place where anyone can contribute their story to the city’s cultural and historical narrative. Together with creators and storytellers of all kinds, we’re actively redefining the role of museums in society and building the largest archive of Baltimore stories in the world.
The Exhibitions and Projects Manager oversees the Peale’s exhibitions including scheduling and managing exhibitions, virtual experiences, artist residencies, in-house openings and special projects. The Exhibitions and Projects Manager is a 20 hrs/ week position that works in partnership with the Chief Operations Officer, Chief Curator and Community Learning and Engagement Manager on direction, strategy and long-term planning of the Peale. The Exhibitions Manager directs Peale staff on the planning and execution of diverse, inclusive, and dynamic exhibitions in keeping with the Peale’s mission.

Job Description
Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore is seeking a Guest Curator for a one-year, part-time appointment. The Guest Curator will work with the Gallery Director and report to the Chair of the Art Department. In addition to assisting the Director in planning and implementing the gallery's schedule of exhibitions, the Guest Curator will curate an exhibition for the University gallery. The Guest Curator will also work with the Gallery Director to gain knowledge of grant administration, curatorial practice, and arts management. The Gallery Director will support the successful candidate to: curate an exhibition; write curatorial statements for brochures, press releases, publicity material and social media, as well as prepare didactic test for exhibitions; present a curator's talk and organize artists' talks, assist with handling and installing art; develop special programming; and work with student gallery assistants. There may also be an opportunity for the Guest Curator to teach a course in the Art Department in their area of expertise.
An MFA, MA, or enrolled in graduate program in Art History, Museum Studies, or another visual art discipline. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage student assistants, work as part of the team and take initiative to work independently. Familiarity with gallery environment required.

A little bit about John Kirby:
John has worked the majority of his business career as an entrepreneur in
small and midsize companies. Along the way, he founded and sold two
companies. A highlight was the sale of reachNET, a company he co-founded.
The company developed a wireless TTY for the deaf community and was sold
in 2001 to Telecommunication Systems (NASDAQ: TSYS).
He and his teams have mentored tech companies, been involved in tech
transfer from government and education to the private sector and assisted
veteran-led companies. John’s current company is Boat School Ventures,
which mentors and raises capital for early stage startups. He is also an
Adjunct Professor teaching Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland
Baltimore County (UMBC).
John was born and raised in Catonsville MD, and earned a BS degree from
the United States Naval Academy and an Executive MBA from Loyola
University. He is a veteran having served five years in the US Marine
Corps.

If you answered yes, then the Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is the perfect opportunity to do so! CBIC is a competition exclusively for UMBC students that awards up to $5,000 in cash prizes in BOTH the Technology and Innovation track AND the Social Impact track.
The Cangialosi Business Innovation Competition (CBIC) is a unique opportunity for UMBC graduate and undergraduate students who are serious about starting a business or social impact venture. Participants will experience the process of planning a startup business by submitting a competitive and realistic 3-5 page business plan, which will be judged by members of the Baltimore Angels (real investors!). Qualifiers will present their ideas in a final competition, where cash prizes will be given out.
First Prize= $3,000
Second Prize = $2,000
Third Prize = $1,000
Cash prizes are available to the top 3 winners in both the Technology and Innovation track and the Social Impact Track.
After a 6-month review, an additional $2,000 is available to one of the top winners.
