The Phillips Collection is seeking applicants for our three fellowship programs for the 2022-2023 academic year, and we are looking for professors and program coordinators to spread the word to students across many academic disciplines.</span><div><br></div><blockquote><div><span><strong>The Makeba Clay Diversity Fellowship</strong> will host a fellow to conduct research for The Phillip Collection's Institutional History project, a project exploring the history of the Phillips Collection and it's relationship to DC's evolving communities.<br></span></div><div><br></div><div><span><strong>The Phillips Collection Terra Curatorial Fellowship</strong> will involve assisting with curatorial research dedicated to the re-contextualization of the Phillips Collection’s permanent collection.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span><strong>The Visitor Experience/ Digital Audience Engagement Fellow</strong> will engage in research and application of online and onsite visitor experience initiatives. This will include, but not be limited to, exploring best practices in online audience engagement and onsite visitor experience via evaluation and assessment</span></div></blockquote><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>All fellowships will be hybrid, including both remote and in-person work. It’s truly a riveting exploration of how television in its formative years adopted modernism as a source of inspiration.  </p><p><span><br></span><span>Research Professor and Chief Curator at the Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture, </span><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Maryland,_Baltimore_County" title="University of Maryland, Baltimore County" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">University of Maryland, Baltimore County</a><span> </span> Maurice Berger curated this eye-opening event.</p><p><br>“This exhibition is really about the early years of television and how young producers, writers, and network executives were in search of inspiration.     <div class="html-content"><div><em>Revolution of the Eye</em>, the first exhibition to explore the relationship between modern art and early American television has made a big splash with its recent opening at The Jewish Museum, NYC. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Maurice Berger, Research Professor and Chief Curator, Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture, UMBC, and curator, National Jewish Archive of Broadcasting, the Jewish Museum, New York. </div><div><br></div><div>The exhibit has been cited in <strong>ARTFORUM</strong>, <strong>Art in America</strong>, and <strong>Art News</strong>. <em>Revolution of the Eye </em>was named  critic's pick in the <strong>Village Voice</strong>, <strong>Time Out New York</strong>, and <strong>AM NY</strong>, adding to great press coverage in the <strong>New York Times</strong>, <strong>Wired Magazine</strong>, <strong>The Huffington Post</strong>, and <strong>US News</strong>. <br><br>This stunning Abbott Miller designed exhibition will be on view at the <a href="http://thejewishmuseum.org/exhibitions/revolution-of-the-eye" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Jewish Museum</a> through September 27, 2015, and then will embark upon a national tour (through 2017): Nova Southeastern University Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale; The Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA; Center for Art, Design, and Visual Culture, University of Maryland, Baltimore County; Smart Museum of Art, The University of Chicago.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Kudos to Maurice Berger!</strong><br></div></div>

    <Title>Project Mah Jongg featured on CBS Sunday Morning and Sun</Title>

          <div class="html-content"><p><span><a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/mah-jongg-madness/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">CBS Sunday Morning</a>, <a href="http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2014-04-04/entertainment/bs-ae-mah-jongg-20140404_1_jewish-museum-mah-jongg-exhibit" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">The Baltimore Sun</a>, and the <a href="http://jewishtimes.com/21343/americas-other-pastime/#.U0K0p9xqtFw" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Baltimore Jewish Times</a> have run</span><span> <a href="http://jewishtimes.com/21343/americas-other-pastime/#.U0K0p9xqtFw" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">features</a></span><span> on </span><a href="http://www.projectmahjongg.com/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Project Mah Jongg</a><span>, now appearing at the Jewish Museum of Maryland </span><span>and is on view in Baltimore through June 29, 2014.</span><span>. </span></p><p><span><a href="http://www.projectmahjongg.com/about.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">The show</a>, which originated at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, NYC has also garnered notice in the New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The LA Times. The show has travelled to Portland, Cleveland, LA, Miami Beach, Atlanta, and will continue on to </span><a href="http://www.thecjm.org/on-view/upcoming/project-mah-jongg/about" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">San Francisco</a><span> this summer.</span></p><p><span>CIRCA Director Timothy Nohe produced sound designs for three "Muji" players, documenting games in Chinatown and the Upper East Side. The sound work was invited by curator Melissa Martens Yaverbaum. Abbot Miller, a partner at Pentagram Design, designed the exhibit to highlight the intriguing objects and imagery surrounding the game. Original works by fashion icon Isaac Mizrahi, and renowned illustrators Maira Kalman, Christoph Niemann, and Bruce McCall pay homage to the influence mah jongg has had on design and contemporary artists. The exhibition's sumptuous companion publication "</span><a href="http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/books/2010/05/crak-bam-dot.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Mah Jongg: Crak, Bam, Dot,</a><span>" was edited by Abbott Miller and Patsy Tarr, and published by twice books.</span></p></div>
