ODK Graduation Cords ODK Graduation Chords will be available for sale for $3 starting Monday. 



Hello ODK members,

I am so excited that the UMBC ODK Circle can now offer ODK Graduation Cords at a highly discounted rate for UMBC ODK members. These are cords that you can wear at either undergraduate or graduate commencement and keep after graduation. 

HUGE thanks to the Commons staff that helped make this possible!!

How to buy your cords:
  • Where: the Commons Campus Information Center
  • When: Dec 5 - 20 during the following hours: M-F 8am - 10pm, Sat & Sun 10am - 8pm. 
  • How: Tell the CIC staff person you want to buy ODK Chords, they will then ask for your full name and student ID. 
  • Payment: You can only purchase your chord with cash or UMBC red card. The CIC does not take credit card or check.
  • Cost: $3 - you may only purchase one set of cords for yourself. 
It has been tradition in the past to, after graduation, give your chord with a thank you card to a mentor who has helped you in your leadership journey. While this tradition works for some people, I also understand if you want to keep your cord yourself.

Corinne helps facilitate enriching educational experiences with students that promote self-discovery and the skills to create positive changes in their communities.  Prior to joining the Student Life team at UMBC, Corinne received her M.Ed. in Student Affairs from University of Maryland, College Park.  While in College Park, Corinne was the Graduate Coordinator for the Maryland LEAD Program, creating workshops and conferences to promote students' development of the skills necessary to practice socially responsible leadership.   She also worked at University of Maryland Hillel building programs for Jewish students in Greek Life and served as a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs in Pittsburgh, PA.  Corinne is a proud alumna of Northwestern University (Go ‘Cats!) with a dual degree in Middle East Studies and International Security.

Each summer ODK elects a new Executive Committee made up of 3 - 5 ODK members who are current full-time students at UMBC. Members can nominate another member or themselves by June 7. Nominees will be contacted individually by Virginia Byrne to accept their nomination. The general body will vote on the new Executive Committee members through an online ballot that will be available June 10.

Term: 1 academic year
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours a month
Responsibilities:
- Meet monthly with the advisors and other executive committee members
- Rotate responsibility of facilitating general body meetings
- Plan circle events
- Get one-on-one feedback about your e-portfolio
- Select the 2017 class of ODK
- Plan and execute the ODK induction ceremony in May

Every year, the Omicron Delta Kappa Foundation awards scholarships to more than 20 collegiate members to continue their educations through graduate and professional study. Scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $2,000. Recipients demonstrate exceptional academic performance and leadership abilities.
