<Tagline>Ongoing Learning & Challenge Conclusion</Tagline>

Exist in a continuous state of reflection.

2. Seek out environments that will help you grow and that help you become your best self.

3. Nurture your relationships: Once you create a connection, you must continue to nurture the relationship so that it strengthens. The best way to do this is by listening and being present.

4. Communication is key: Consider the ways you communicate within a group or team. Do you voice your ideas? Do you build on or add to others? Do you take time to listen? Are you comfortable with silence?

5. Know that we all have a part in the leadership process: Active group members are committed to the organization and its purpose. Not only do they do what is expected of them, but are proactive and willing to fill gaps.

6. You have the capacity to be an agent of change: It requires embracing creative problem solving, risk taking and courage.

This week we focused on relationships and groups, today we will touch on partnerships. Leadership exists through powerful relationships. Leadership itself is relational. No one can be a leader alone. Often the greatest leaders have a partner who can see their true selves and can challenge the leader’s thinking. When you have partnerships, you have the built-in trust in the relationship that allows for mutual feedback. Receiving feedback is beneficial to leaders because it allows for them to grow and develop. Partners also act as supporters and even confidants, and are essential when it comes to moving forward with initiatives or creating change. They help fuel you when your cup is running empty. The power this type of relationship has makes possibilities endless.

“All change, even very large and powerful change, begins when a few people start talking with one another.” Margaret Wheatley

“Who expects you to be somebody?” Tom Rath

Day 6 Challenge Questions:

What are your reactions to these thoughts? Describing leader identity is integral to how we behave, show up and it can be the driving force for motivating development. Although not required when engaging in the activity of leadership, leader identity is a building block that creates meaning and organizes new leadership knowledge (Guthrie et al., 2016).
Online Leadership Challenge Day 2

<Tagline>Social identities; the ever evolving self-portrait of you</Tagline>

Today’s challenge is all about YOU! Mainly, we’ll be focusing on the identities that make up who you are as an individual, leader, and person in the world. Identity is an ever evolving self-portrait; the ongoing take, retake and update of “who am I”. It changes overtime, and something important to note about identities is that some may be visible and some are not. Identity is also known to be a socially constructed concept grounded in: historical, political, cultural norms, and lived experiences. Ultimately, our identities result from our own navigation and meaning making of self, context, and relationships. Take a moment, and simply think about all the pieces that make up the complex being of you. Using a physical sheet of paper or a virtual blank document, write or type the following: Age, Sex, Gender Expression, Ethnicity, Race, Physical/Emotional/Cognitive Capability, Socio-Economic Class, Sexual Orientation, Religion/Spirituality, Geographical Origin

Reflect on the identities and descriptors mentioned above. On your personal paper or document, note the following:

Which are most central to how you define yourself? Mark them with a star *

Which are central to how others define you? Mark them with an arrow ->

Which brings you the most joy? Or proud of? Mark them with a smiley face :)

Which would you like to understand further? Mark them with a question mark (?)

Challenge Day 2 Questions:
As you look at your words and markings-- what stands out to you?
Which of these identities empower your voice as a leader?

To provide your answers using mobile, follow and share your comments on the Challenge Day 2 posted on the Campus Life Instagram (@umbccampuslife).
