Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities:
During my internship as a Data Analyst at the Maryland Department of Health, my daily responsibilities involve a variety of tasks aimed at supporting data-driven decision-making and improving healthcare outcomes. A significant portion of my time is spent engaging with stakeholders, which includes discussing data requirements, understanding their analytical needs, and presenting insights derived from data analysis.
In addition to stakeholder interactions, I dedicate time to learning and skill development. This involves staying updated with the latest data analysis techniques, tools, and healthcare trends. I continuously work on enhancing my proficiency in data manipulation, statistical analysis, and data visualization.
My core duties as a Data Analyst revolve around handling and processing large datasets related to public health. This entails data cleaning, transformation, and preparation for analysis. I conduct statistical analysis to identify trends, patterns, and correlations within the data, which can provide valuable insights for decision-makers.
Furthermore, I contribute to creating reports and dashboards that effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. These visualizations help stakeholders comprehend complex information and make informed decisions based on data-driven insights.

I learned about the Data Analyst position at the Maryland Department of Health through Handshake, a platform that connects students and job seekers with various opportunities. When chosen, I received an official offer letter outlining the terms of the internship, including the duration, compensation, and any specific requirements. Upon reviewing the offer and its terms, I decided whether to accept the position.

In my role as a Data Analyst at the Maryland Department of Health, there are several aspects that have brought me significant enjoyment and fulfillment. Firstly, the presence of exceptionally supportive mentors within the organization has been invaluable. Their willingness to guide, share insights, and encourage exploration of healthcare data has not only facilitated my professional growth but has also nurtured a sense of belonging within the team.
