Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities.
I am tasked with creating advertising materials for Career Center events, which includes creating posters, flyers, Instagram, web banners ad and thumbnails.
Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?
In March of 2022, I saw the post for the position on UMBCworks, which is now Handshake. I applied and received an email for scheduling an interview. After the interviewing process I later received an emailing offering me the position.
Which of the following resources did you use to find your current experience?
UMBCworks (now Handshake)
What have you enjoyed the most about your position or organization?
My favorite part of this position is being able to use my creative skills to problem solve when developing advertisements. I also appreciate getting experience developing works that have to follow a style guide.
How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?
I feel I made effective advertisements that allowed students to learn about helpful events run by the Career Center.
What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?
Make sure to track and document all works you create during your internship, and make sure to manage your time well and stay organized.

This opportunity provided me with amazing experience in my industry of choice, which is something I can't obtain in a classroom.

About the Presenter:
Eli Gendleman (He/him/His) is a Freshman Political Science major. Outside of UMBC, Eli is a major sports fan, and his favorite teams are the Arizona Cardinals (Football) and the Phoenix Suns (Basketball). Eli believes that leadership is a spectrum and that everyone can lead differently. He believes people do not need to be the loudest and most prominent to lead people effectively. As an LPF(Leadership Peer Facilitator), Eli plans to help members of the UMBC community to find a leadership style that suits them. Besides being an LPF, Eli is a first-year Ambassador for SGA.
About the Leadershop:
Leadership 101: The goal of this Leadershop is to help students to uncover their leadership style and, through simulations, incorporate what they learned into the world. This Leadershop is a fun and informative way to learn how to be a leader.
Ice Breaker: What trait do you think is essential for a leader?
Mediator: The most challenging part of being a leader is trying not to put a bias toward a particular person or group. As a leader, you are supposed to cooperate with groups and people to find compromise and common ground. A great leader can effectively mediate when groups and individuals are at odds.
The Leadershops series consists of 1 hour workshops that focus on various student centered leadership-related topics facilitated by Campus Life staff and Leadership Peer Facilitators. This program aims to contribute to the leadership development and ongoing learning of UMBC undergraduate students.
