    <div class="html-content"><p>Attention ECON, FEIC, BTA, and Accounting December Grads</p><p><strong>Student Affairs Business Services Center is seeking TWO Accounting Associates.</strong></p><p><strong>FULL POSITION DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES CAN BE FOUND <a href="http://listings.umbc.edu/cw/en-us/job/492398/accounting-associate-search-reopened" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">HERE</a></strong></p><p><strong>Closing Date:  </strong>   Best consideration by December 3, 2017<br><strong>
    Salary: </strong>   Pay Range 9 (Starting at $35,728) based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program</p><p><strong>DUTIES:</strong>  Provides full-performance level of business management services work requiring a working knowledge of, and the ability to apply, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and skill in applying basic analytical skills to review revenues, prepare forecasts, and reconcile accounts.    Specific duties include:  coordinate the Accounts Receivable function for multiple departments to include Events and Conference Services, Commonvision, Flat Tuesdays, Game Room, Transportation Services, University Health Services, Career Center, and others as needed; supervise all cash handling by employees in the Division of Student Affairs; oversee the accurate preparation of complex deposit transmital documentation; supervise the on-line ticketing revenue process and other specialized revenue programs for the Division of Student Affairs; analyze all revenue generation in the Division of Student Affairs to propose improvements in procedures and processes; prepare monthly reports on revenue generation using multiple data sources and include explanations of budget variances; manage internal control policies and procedures for the Division of Student Affairs; and perform other duties as assigned.</p></div>

  <Title>2018 Rhodes Scholar Naomi Mburu</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><span>Dear Members of the UMBC Community,</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>We are delighted to announce that Naomi Mburu, a member of the class of 2018, has been awarded the <a href="https://t.e2ma.net/click/zl1vv/nwtbnbb/7vev2f" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Rhodes Scholarship</a>. Naomi is a Meyerhoff Scholar (M26) and is pursuing a major in chemical engineering and a minor in physics. She is one of thirty-two students selected from 866 applicants from across the nation to receive the Rhodes Scholarship this year. Naomi is the first UMBC student in the history of the campus to receive this prestigious honor. Upon graduation, Naomi will pursue a Ph.D. in engineering science at the University of Oxford. </span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Naomi’s achievement is truly a UMBC community success story. Naomi’s parents Joseph and Joyce Mburu, a UMBC employee in the financial services department, have been dedicated to her success throughout her academic years. We would also like to acknowledge all in the UMBC community who supported Naomi on her path towards the Rhodes, from faculty in biological sciences who supported Naomi’s research when she was a student at Mount Hebron High School, to the departments in the College of Engineering and Information Technology that have helped Naomi excel.   <Title>Goldwater Scholarship for STEM Majors</Title>
  <Tagline>Up to $7500 for Sophomores and Juniors in STEM Research</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><h5>SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY<br>
    IN MATHEMATICS, THE NATURAL SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING</h5>
    
    <p>Students interested in a research career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering are invited to apply to the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. Established by Congress in 1986,  Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation operates an educational scholarship program designed to provide opportunities for outstanding U.S. students with excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in, and potential for, research careers in STEM fields.</p>
    
    <p>Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit to students who are sophomores or juniors during the current academic year and who have excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in and potential for research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. The scholarship covers undergraduate eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board to a maximum of $7,500 per academic year.</p>
    
    
    <h6>ELIGIBILITY</h6>
    
    <p>To be considered for nomination, a student must:</p>
    <ul>
    <li>Have one or two years of undergraduate</li>
    
    <li>study left and be pursuing a bachelor’s degree on a full-time basis. (A current sophomore student in a two-year college who plans to transfer to a baccalaureate program may be nominated.)</li>
    
    <li>Have an average of at least B or the equivalent.</li>
    
    <li>Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.</li>
    
    <li>Have a demonstrated interest in a research career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.</li>
    
    <li>Be nominated by his or her college or university on the official online nomination application provided by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.</li>
    </ul>
    <p>Scholarship recipients nominated as sophomores can expect to receive a maximum of two years of scholarship support.</p>
    
    <p>Scholarship recipients nominated as juniors are eligible for a maximum of one year of scholarship support.</p>
    
    <h6>HOW TO APPLY</h6>
    <p>Colleges and universities nominate students for Goldwater Scholarships. Information may be obtained from the designated Goldwater Scholarship Campus Representative* (Dr. April Householder) at your institution.</p>
    
    <h6>SELECTION</h6>
    <p>A distinguished committee of educators; deans; and mathematics, natural science, and engineering faculty members will review the nominee’s credentials and recommend a pool of qualified individuals to the Board of Trustees of the Goldwater Foundation. The Trustees will make the final approval.</p>

  <Title>Academy For Research, Clinical, &amp; Health Equity Scholarship</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><strong>The Dean for Medical Education's Inaugural Academy for Research, Clinical, and Health Equity Scholarship (ARCHES)</strong> is a six-week program for eight undergraduate students who are rising juniors and rising seniors interested in pursuing medical studies. All students are encouraged to apply, including students who identify as first-generation college students, students who come from backgrounds underrepresented in the <strong>health professions</strong>, and students who are committed to advancing opportunities for populations who lack equitable access to health care and/or committed to serving the underserved.<div><br></div><div>This program will engage selected participants in clinical experience, guided research, and immersive service at Georgetown University. Participants will gain exposure to the clinical and research activities at Georgetown University School of Medicine and to the greater DC community on issues of health equity. GUSOM ARCHES aims to strengthen the research and clinical skills of promising undergraduate students and prepare them for successful matriculation into medical school.</div><div><br></div><div><div>Program dates: June 27 - August 11, 2018</div><div><br></div><div>Benefits:</div><div><ul><li>Stipend of $4,000.     <div class="html-content"><div>The Curry School of Education at UVA would like to invite <strong>current junior students</strong> to take part in the SURP program. The 2018 SURP Application is now available, so please forward to interested students! </div><div><br></div><div>The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) is a 10-week internship that provides undergraduates from underrepresented groups with valuable research and professional development experience.</div><div><br></div><div><div>SURP interns will:</div><div><ul><li>Present research at Leadership Alliance National Symposium (LANS) as well as a UVA research symposium.</li><li>Work hands-on in research with UVA faculty mentor(s) and graduate student mentor(s).</li><li>Participate in workshops on research methods and the grad school application process, and enroll in an intensive GRE preparation course.</li></ul><div>Benefits:</div><div><ul><li>A $3000 stipend and some travel and meal expenses.</li><li>Housing in a university residence hall.</li></ul></div><div>Eligible interns must:</div><div><ul><li>Be a member of a group that is underrepresented in educational research.</li><li>Be a current junior, with 2 semesters or less to complete after the internship.</li><li>Other requirements are highlighted on the SURP website.</li></ul><br></div></div></div><div><strong>Deadline: FEB 1, 2018</strong></div><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><div><em>If you have any questions about finding summer research or you need assistance with you application, please contact Dr. April Householder, <a href="mailto:aprilh@umbc.edu">aprilh@umbc.edu</a>.</em></div></div></div>
