Full Title: Interfolio: A Tool to Help Grad Students Throughout the Job Search3 Ways Interfolio Can Help

*Build Your Dossier: You don't need to wait until you're on the job market to begin collecting confidential letters and other professional documents. Getting a head start while you're still working towards your degree can save tons of stress and headaches when you actually go on the market years later.

*Establish a Professional Identity: With the Interfolio Portfolio, you can immediately begin collecting examples of your work, reflecting on work and classroom experiences, and demonstrating teaching skills. You can do this all through an easy-to-use, online service that can be as private or as public as you want it to be. It's a resource you can begin maintaining as a graduate student and continue updating throughout your whole career, even after you've left campus.

*Efficiently Manage the Job Search: Graduate students continue to represent the highest percentage of Interfolio's membership. Aspiring job applicants across most of the humanities (English, History, Political Science, etc...) take advantage of Interfolio's dossier service to manage all documents for their search. Here is an article recently posted in the Chronicle of Higher Education about Interfolio's services.

Hometown: Laurel, MD

Q: How long have you been at UMBC?

A: One year.

Q: What is your current title (job or student organization position)?

A: I am the SGA Treasurer, and a Resident Assistant for Harbor Hall

Q: In 12 words or less, what role(s) do you play on campus?

A: Encourage, motivate, and serve as an advocate for other students on campus.

Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?

A: Being a part of the SGA allows me to work with a diverse group of individuals that are passionate about creating change at UMBC. I enjoy reflecting on the lessons I’ve learned, and challenges I have faced with this group. The weekly Finance Board Meetings have been some of the longest meetings I've been a part of, but also the ones that I've left with the most insight. The SGA has given me the opportunity to meet with various student organizations on campus, and for that I’m truly grateful. It’s wonderful knowing that you attend an institution where everyone is so motivated and compassionate.

Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?

A: The Sondheim Public Affairs Program has shown me that the best way to learn is through experience. While at UMBC I have volunteered at an afterschool program through the Shriver Center, and working with the children has taught me many valuable lessons. It has taught me the importance of patience, determination, and compassion. I’ve learned that in order to try to create positive change you must be willing to place yourself outside of your comfort zone, and understand the difficulties that the people you are trying to help face. UMBC has definitely shown me that in order to make the most out of your college experience you shouldn’t be afraid to jump in, and try to find something you are really passionate about.

Q: Complete this sentence: “I am a big fan of __________”

A: Traveling and trying to immerse myself with other cultures. Stepping outside of my comfort zone and challenging myself to try what may seem to be impossible. I’m a big fan of the arts, reading, and music. My favorite show is “Glee”. I love music and how it can unite people from all over the world. It’s truly a powerful way to express one’s self.

Q: Do you have any UMBC stories, little-known facts about UMBC, favorite spots on campus, or anything else you’d like to share?

A: The lounge on the third floor of the Commons is a great place to study, or just relax. Not that many people are in there, and the environment is really warm and welcoming. It’s definitely a great place to checkout.

I want to encourage everyone to take advantage of the events that take place on campus. It’s a great feeling when you’ve been to an event that’s lifted your spirits, and has earned a place on your list of unforgettable memories at UMBC. Don’t be afraid to think of something out of the ordinary, and when you do make sure you come to the SGA Finance Board.
