PRIDE Week is happening next week! All the things you need to know are linked below. Support us by using the #umbci3bprideweek2023 on all of your social media accounts to let us know you want PRIDE Week to continue in the future. Follow us on Linktree and Instagram for everything Pride!

It is with great excitement that we share the upcoming details for our first ever PRIDE Week with i3b! As a reminder, PRIDE Week will be taking place all of next week April 24 - April 29, kicking off with a Sneak Peak Preview today! In this collaborative effort, we would like to invite you to all of our events. We have linked each of them below with up to date information to make it easier for you to locate the separate links. 


As you may imagine this is quite a big undertaking for our small professional and student staff team. As such, we will be adjusting the hours of The Pride Center to accommodate for programming. Below are the dates and times that will be impacted by our programming. 

  • Today, Wednesday, April 19, 2023: 1:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • Monday, April 24, 2023: Regular Hours  
  • Tuesday, April 25, 2023: Center Closed from 4:00 p.m.- 6:45 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Apri 26, 2023: Center Closing at 4:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 27, 2023: Regular Hours
  • Friday, April 28, 2023 & Remaining Fridays for the Spring 2023 Semester: Center Closed
  • Saturday, April 29, 2023: Center Closed
  • Thursday, May 4, 2023: Center Open 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities. 

My day to day responsibility was to provide assistance in various software development projects for Amtrak.com using technologies and platforms such as Angular,Adobe Experience Manager,HTML CSS and debugged several developmental issues/defects.

Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application? 

Using LinkedIn, I discovered an open opening for this position and applied. After applying, I was called for an interview in 2-3 weeks.

Which of the following resources did you use to find your current experience? 

LinkedIn or Other Social Media

What have you enjoyed the most about your position or organization?  

The thing I enjoyed the most was the events that were organized by Amtrak to socialize with other interns that enhanced my soft skills.I learned a lot by working with lead software engineers got hands on technical knowledge.

How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?

I was working on crucial project cookie consent ,I dug out useful/critical insights for them

What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience? 

Keep applying, rejections will come but don't give up , and take a chance—the best things take time to come be patient and never quit in your life. 

Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.

The Sherman Center for Early Learning in Urban Communities is pleased to announce its 2022 - 2023 research fellow, Dr. Mirela Cengher, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at UMBC. 

Dr. Cengher's study titled, "A Comparison of Simultaneous and Sequential Bilingualism in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ADS)", will investigate which type of instruction is best suited for children on the Autism spectrum when learning two languages. The Sherman Center's support of this study will assist Dr. Cengher in developing larger - scale projects aimed at establishing optimal procedures for teaching two languages to children with ADS and will have significant implications for practice as it will help identify the optimal order of instruction for language acquisition for this population. Her study will be conducted at Sherman Center Baltimore City Public School (BCPS) partners, strengthening UMBC's contributions to building a strong foundation for lifelong learning among young children in urban education.

About the Presenter:

Deborah Watson (She/Her/Hers) is a Sophomore Emergency Health Service on the Pre-Med track at UMBC. Outside of UMBC, she enjoys journaling, listening to music, and doing arts & crafts projects. Deborah believes leadership is setting up a foundation of strength and positivity for others to follow. Encouraging and shaping minds is her main leadership style. Her goal as a Leadership Peer Facilitator is to create a safe and vulnerable space where students can grow as people and in leadership. Other on-campus pursuits that she enjoys include being Vice President of the Erickson Community Council, being on the UMBC Cheer Team, and a Woolie Welcome Leader. 


About the Leadershop:

Women and Emotional Intelligence in Leadership: Emotional Intelligence in leadership helps to build self-awareness, accountability, vulnerability, and perseverance. This Leadershop was developed to heighten your awareness and understanding of the power that is obtained through emotional intelligence. Being able to utilize it will help you to personalize your leadership style. 


Icebreaker: Would you rather be the funniest or smartest person in the room?

I would prefer to be the funniest person in the room. Being intelligent is a highly appreciated skill to have and I most certainly admire those who are, although making people laugh and bringing that positive energy into the room is so uplifting and that is a gift in itself. Laughter brings joy which in turn creates an uplifting and genuine atmosphere. 



The Leadershops series consists of 1 hour workshops that focus on various student centered leadership-related topics facilitated by Campus Life staff and Leadership Peer Facilitators. This program aims to contribute to the leadership development and ongoing learning of UMBC undergraduate students.
