ORCID integration with Digital Measures

We’re pleased to announce that UMBC faculty can now import publications from ORCID into Digital Measures (DM)!

ORCID is a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting research and researchers. ORCID provides persistent digital identifiers that researchers own and control for sharing information with other systems, ensuring proper attribution and recognition for scholarly output, and saving time and hassle. Over 1,000 organizations, many of them universities and research institutions, participate as consortial members in ORCID.

This new integration with Digital Measures (DM) was made possible as part of UMBC’s ORCID membership which took effect on March 1, 2021. UMBC faculty members updating the Intellectual Contributions section of their DM profiles can now select ORCID from the list of third party services offering imported citations. We know faculty maintain records in many online systems and we’re pleased to be able to provide this as an option for saving time.

Instructions are available on the Library’s website: https://lib.guides.umbc.edu/c.php?g=1047837&p=7604167#s-lg-box-26854360

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Michelle Flinchbaugh, Digital Scholarship Services Librarian, at flinchba@umbc.edu

Please note that UMBC does not require the creation of an ORCID account nor connection with DM for those who already have ORCID accounts and prefer to keep them separate. For those interested in learning more about ORCID before getting started, the library website and ORCID’s own website contain a wealth of information on features, privacy, security, and researcher control over data.

Online Leadership Challenge Day 4

<Tagline>Values; our compass to decision-making, behaviors and life</Tagline>

For Challenge Day 4, we are going to focus on values. You may be wondering why values are important, or how do they connect back to leadership? The values that we each hold are important because they help us grow, develop, and create the future we want to experience. The decisions that are made on an individual and group level, are actually a reflection of our values and beliefs, and they are typically always directed towards a specific purpose or need. Think of values as a compass, that weighs in on inner judgments or beliefs, which then helps determine decisions and behaviors while navigating the life or reality an individual or group wishes to live.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on your own personal values. Individual values reflect how you show up in your life, your specific needs, the principles you live by and what you consider important for your self-interest. We have already had two winners: a staff member from the Division of Professional Studies and one of our computer science majors each received 100 food fund points!

It remains imperative that all faculty and staff report their vaccines or request an exemption as soon as possible. Faculty and staff who do not report their vaccine or receive an exemption will face disciplinary action that includes but is not limited to the inability to participate in University travel or telework.

Last week we provided all of our faculty and staff with their required health and safety measures based on their vaccination status. Individuals who do not have a verified vaccination status must complete daily symptom tracking and must test regularly when they begin visiting campus. Care@Work provides eligible employees (regular staff and faculty, Contingent II staff, and GAs) with tools to help make informed hiring decisions whenever and wherever care needs arise. With UMBC’s free Premium Membership, eligible staff, faculty, and GAs can post a caregiver request and browse through active caregivers on the site, use the Safety Center, receive newsletters filled with tips and advice, and access the wealth of care-related content in the online community. Eligible employees and GAs also have access to view full profiles and reviews, contact caregivers, purchase background checks, subsidized backup care (tiered copay schedule), and tuition discounts at participating childcare centers.
