Sign Up to be an Overnight Host!
The offices of Undergraduate Admissions and Residential Life need your help in welcoming the next class of new Retrievers! On Friday, April 12 and Thursday, April 25, we will be hosting overnight programs on campus for prospective and newly admitted high school students to learn more about UMBC. We would like to invite you to be a part of these events by serving as an Overnight Host!
Why should you be an Overnight Host?
- It's a great opportunity to gain leadership experience, especially for those interested in becoming a Resident Assistant (RA), Tour Guide, and/or Orientation Peer Advisor (OPA) in the future!
- You can be one of the first to meet the next class of Retrievers
- You'll have a chance to promote your own club or student organization
- Get free food and UMBC swag!
What do you have to do to be a Host?
- Attend a 1-hour training session
- You must live in a traditional on-campus residential hall and be able to host a student in your room
- Accompany your guest to a variety of UMBC events (based on their interest), including the RSA Block Party, Musical Theater Club's spring production, (seb) Magic Show, ASU's Layaleena,(seb) Movie Night, Late Night Dining, and more
- You'll need to remain on campus with your visiting student for the duration of the program
What else do I need to know?
Students will bring their own sleeping bags, so you just have to provide an open floor for them to stay and be willing to hang out with them for the evening. We encourage all interested hosts to check with their roommates and suitemates before they sign up! You can also encourage them to sign up too!
If you would like to be an Overnight Host, complete the following form by Tuesday, March 19. Once you submit the form, we will provide you with more information about the mandatory training session and overnight programs. Student Assistant or Tour Guide Position Application
Do you love UMBC? Are you looking for a way to gain valuable professional experience while sharing your Retriever pride with prospective students? Are you looking to be a part of a fun, close-knit team? If you answered YES to any of these questions, a Student Assistant or Tour Guide position could be a good fit for you! The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation is looking for Tour Guides and Student Assistants to join our team for the summer and the 2019-2020 academic year. Check out the position descriptions below to learn more about joining our team. |

Student Assistants - Greet and assist prospective students and family members who visit the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation
- Job responsibilities include helping with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, mass mailings, preparing information packets, program preparation, and attending admissions events
- Student Assistants are required to work at least 6 hours per week, attend mandatory trainings each semester and attend monthly team meetings
- Student Assistants have great customer service and organizational skills, a passion for helping others, and knowledge about the university
Tour Guides - Provide guided walking tours of the UMBC campus while sharing their personal stories, experiences, and facts about UMBC with prospective students, families and campus partners
- Attend recruitment and yield events hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation
- Tour Guides are required to give at least two tours per week and be available for a minimum of six Saturdays throughout the semester
- Tour Guides are required to attend mandatory trainings each semester and bi-weekly team meetings
- Tour Guides are enthusiastic, well-spoken, and passionate about UMBC

As another semester gets into full swing, we'd like for you to take a moment to think back to your first couple of weeks at UMBC. Are you amazed at how far you've come since then? Would you like for new freshmen and transfer students to find their place at UMBC? If so, the New Student Success Team is looking for you!
Wooloies serve as University representatives to new students during Welcome Week and throughout the academic year. As part of the New Student Success Team, you will enhance your leadership skills while making a difference in the lives of new UMBC students.
If this sounds exciting to you, Campus Life, Residential Life, and Academic Engagement and Transition Programs would like to encourage you to apply to be a member of our team!
