    Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT) is looking to 
    provide a new-service learning opportunity to Maryland college students.
     A non-profit founded in 1992, MBRT is a coalition of more than 100 
    leading employers that have made a long-term commitment to support 
    education reform and improve student achievement in Maryland. </div>
    
    <div> </div>
    <div>To improve 
    its programs, MBRT is looking for a new group to deliver its message: 
    college students. MBRT would like to provide a new service-learning 
    opportunity to college students who wish to give back and make a 
    difference in their community.<br>
    <br>In order to successfully create a program that would benefit both 
    you as a volunteer and the students, MBRT would like to learn more about
     why college students volunteer and how MBRT can make its program 
    appealing and worthwhile.<br>
    <br>We would greatly appreciate your time to fill out this short survey 
    to help us improve our programs and learn more about college student

  <Title>Paid Internships w/Children&#8217;s Defense Fund Freedom Schools</Title>

            Leader Intern position at the D.C. General Shelter. The D.C.
            General Shelter is a new site and is the first where
            students will be working directly with homeless children. This

            by Friday, April 6, 2012.<br><br>Organization:<br>The CDF Freedom Schools® program is an educational and cultural enrichment program. Our program provides summer options for children where there are none and strengthens parent and community involvement in the year-round achievement of children. We serve children ages 5 to 18 for five to eight weeks and integrate reading, conflict resolution, and social action in an activity-based curriculum to promote social, cultural, and historical awareness.<br><br>Founded in 1995 by the Children’s Defense Fund’s Black Community Crusade for Children® (BCCC) initiative and today coordinated nationally by the Children’s Defense Fund in partnership with well-established and effective local and regional child-serving organizations, the CDF Freedom Schools program is a direct service initiative. CDF’s Leave No Child Behind® mission is to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. The project director position requires training sessions conducted by CDF Freedom Schools national staff at the historic CDF Alex Haley Farm in Clinton, Tennessee.<br><br>College-age young people and recent college graduates play a key role in the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools program as servant leader interns. CDF Freedom Schools servant leader interns are responsible for the front-line care and nurturing of the children. Using the Integrated Reading Curriculum, they serve as facilitators in the classroom and as leaders of parent workshops and community outreach activities.<br><br>Responsibilities<br>• Deliver the Integrated Reading Curriculum to a class of no more than ten students for 6–8 weeks during the summer months, according to the standards developed by the Children's Defense Fund and the local program sponsor.<br>• Set up and break down his/her classroom space, including securing and organizing the appropriate materials.<br>• Collaborate with staff to establish and maintain a supportive and structured environment for the children entrusted to their care.<br>• Serve as a Harambee! leader each day of program operation.<br>• Serve as a leader of afternoon activities and other special events; chaperone field trips.<br>• Participate fully in the June National Training from June 3–10, 2012.         <div class="html-content">The France &amp; Merrick Scholarship Program is a merit scholarship opportunity for talented undergraduates who have demonstrated potential for leadership in the area of civic engagement, especially Baltimore City.  Those with strong backgrounds in service and a minimum 3.0 GPA are strongly encouraged to apply.  <br><br>The 2012-13 France &amp; Merrick Scholarship Application has been given a new look.  The current co-hort will will graduate all but one of its members this May.  This opens up <span>two Fellows positions </span>(tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees - up to $15,000 for in-state students, $22,000 for out-of-state students) and <span>five Scholars positions</span> ($1000).  <br><br>Applications are due <span>NEXT Wednesday, April 4th by 5pm. </span> They can be emailed and/or dropped off to Lori Hardesty at The Shriver Center, 1st Floor of the Public Policy Building (just past the elevators).  Interviews will be scheduled the following week.<br><br>For more information, contact Lori Hardesty at <a href="mailto:lhardesty@umbc.edu">lhardesty@umbc.edu</a> or at (410) 455-2493.<br></div>

  <Title>Chesapeake Bay Trust&#8217;s Chesapeake Conservation Corps</Title>

        <div class="html-content"><p>Maryland DNR, Aquatic Resource Education Department
         is excited to participate in the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s Chesapeake 
        Conservation Corps, in which an opportunity exists for a stipend 
        Volunteer to spend a one-year term of service working
         with the department. The intern would support  programs for schools 
        such as Raising Horseshoe Crabs in the Classroom, Maryland Envirothon, 
        Green Eggs and Sand curriculum; developing new activities and updating 
        current programs to incorporate climate change
         and invasive species data;  outreach events such as wade ins, the 
        Maryland Seafood Festival, and professional conferences; and other 
        educational opportunities.  In addition, the Volunteer will participate 
        in activities with the full Corps.  The purpose of
         the Corps is 1) to enable stipend volunteers to work with host 
        organizations and communities throughout Maryland to implement 
        on-the-ground restoration and energy conservation projects, and 2) to 
        provide leadership and training opportunities for young adults
         pursuing environmental and conservation careers.  </p>
