    internship or research opportunity for the Spring 2012 semester, but have no idea how 
    to get credit for it?  Are you simply looking to have it noted on your 
    transcript for that all-important Grad School or employment 
    application?  <div><div><br><span>Never fear - The Shriver Center is here to help!<br><br></span>Your position is important to obtain admission to graduate school and to find employment after graduation. In addition to that experience and possibly earning pay, you can also get your internship or research noted on your transcript which will help you stand out from the competition when applying for post-graduation jobs and graduate study.  However you must act fast because the deadline to add is February 8th for Graduate Students and March 1st for Undergrads.<br><br>Many students can also potentially obtain three upper level credits by interning only 10 to 12 hours per week.     position may include the following duties: Analyze market and segment
    competitors.  Market research on segments and products within the
    CareFirst geographic region.  Understand insurance products
    in-depth.  Formulate excel spreadsheets and calculate comparisons. 
    Create graph and charts to demonstrate marketing strategy.  Create
    PowerPoint presentations.  Attend meetings.  The intern is an
    integral member of the Product/Segment Management Team.<br>

    CareFirst is looking for someone who can commit to at least three days per week
    (up to 20 hours) during the spring semester, full-time is preferred in the
    summer.</span></p><p><span>Must be a student enrolled in an
    accredited college or university at either the junior/senior level, either at

    <div class="html-content">POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Part Time Student Intern<br><br>The Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce seeks junior or senior year college student intern to assist the Chamber with is initiatives.<br>Background of the Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (BHCC):<br>The Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce seeks to promote and support Hispanic businesses and professionals in the Greater Baltimore area and to develop Hispanic entrepreneurs through leadership, advocacy and economic empowerment.<br><br>The BHCC is run by an all-volunteer Board of Directors who are committed to executing the Mission of the BHCC. Our membership includes business owners, executives and professionals in a wide variety of industries. Most of our members are Hispanic by birth, descedency, marriage or spirit, but we do not discriminate in membership and therefore have a culturally, racially and ethnically diverse membership. Welcome any business that wants to do business with us. Our core members are Latino/Latina owned businesses, and we welcome those that would like to do businesses with this core group as members.<br><br>The BHCC's events create a setting where business owners and professionals can come together informally make key contacts, generate business leads and begin new ventures. The BHCC works to promote the skills and business acumen of our members, through industry specific events, workshops and lectures. BHCC members care very deeply about the success of each other's businesses and careers. We also share the belief that we are only truly successful when we help others to become successful in their respective ventures.  We serve Hispanic Owned businesses in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.<br><br>Our goals:<br>o Connect Hispanic Owned businesses with business opportunities at the local and state level.<br>o Connect Hispanic owned businesses with other large companies or organizations that want to do business with our members.<br>o Advocate for policies at the local and state level that will ensure Hispanic businesses will be successful.<br>o Make people aware of the importance of Hispanic owned businesses in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.<br>o Provide technical assistance as we can to ensure our members are successful.<br>o Partner with key organizations to further these goals.<br><br>SPECIFICALLY THE INTERN WILL:<br>Outreach and programs:<br>• Assist with planning and coordinating networking events, membership meetings, and relevant events as detailed by the Board of Directors<br>• Provide updates to the BHCC website<br>• Update and send information to members through the BHCC E-Newsletter<br>• Review all websites that may have contracting opportunities for our members, and place them in the e-newsletter.<br>• Update and manage the BHCC Facebook page and Twitter<br>Administrative:<br>• Attend each Board of Directors meeting (usually every other month)<br>• Track and update membership income and lists<br>• Follow up with members for membership dues and other items as needed.<br>• Read the BHCC email and mail. Answer the emails and/or refer them to the correct Board members.<br>• Any other duties as negotiated with the Board of Directors<br><br>QUALIFICATIONS:<br>o At least 1 year work experience preferred<br>o Ability to be self directed and take initiative<br>o Excellent oral and written communication skills<br>o Ability to work well with people of diverse ages, ethnicities and education levels<br>o Ability to juggle multiple projects effectively<br>o Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, website and other related software<br><br>COMPENSATION:<br>Stipend of $1,500 per semester with college credit available where applicable. Opportunity for advancement to part time employee status available pending budget and skill level.<br><br>HOURS:<br>Interns will work at least 10 hours a week, or more if the schedule permits.   <Title>Summer Research in Investigative Biotechnology</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Western Kentucky University seeks talented science students to participate in its summer National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program in investigative biotechnology (May 29-August 3, 2012).   Our preference is for rising juniors and seniors (younger students with research experience will be considered), who have completed core courses in the science curriculum at their home institutions and have demonstrated a curiosity and passion for science. We especially encourage applications from students who are members of groups underrepresented in graduate education in the biological sciences.<br><br>Twelve faculty members in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics and Computer Science will serve as mentors to accepted students. These students will gain much.  Academically, students will be trained in research techniques, participate in exciting research (students can chose from over seventeen projects), and gain valuable presentation skills. Additionally, students will benefit from a series of workshops exploring ethics and preparing students to apply for and succeed in graduate school. Practically, students will receive a stipend of $500 per week, free housing, meal and travel allowances, and lab supplies.<br><br><p>REU Benefits</p>

  <Title>Full-Time Paid Co-op at Morgan Stanley for Fall 2012</Title>

    <div class="html-content">The Operations Co-op program is a paid, FULL-TIME program designed to educate participants about the Operations team and the firm as a whole, and to serve as a pipeline to our Full-Time Analyst program. Co-ops are part of a four-month program from August to December. Co-ops are placed with a specific group best aligned to their skills and interests.<br><br>Training Program: Co-ops will participate in an induction day, which provides an overview of the firm. Co-ops then work closely with colleagues to process complex transactions,<br>solve operational problems, respond to business issues and client needs, assist in risk management, conduct<br>revenue analysis and participate in firm reengineering projects. Throughout the program, Co-ops will participate in networking/social events, community service events, senior management speaker series, professional skills training, team projects and mentor networking events.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Trade capture, enrichment and confirmation, position reconciliation: to learn key processes in the life cycle of a trade from deal capture to the final settlement, and then identify and resolve trading breaks from discrepancies dealing with security information, trading date and settlement date, executed quantity, taxes, commission, prices and settlement locations.<br>• Data mining, business analysis, modeling/reporting and documentation: be responsible for the preparation<br>and compilation of daily/weekly/monthly metric dashboards, to ensure that thorough business analysis is performed and that accurate business requirements are documented in accordance with banking regulation and internal policy.<br>• System testing: use systems effectively and efficiently to mitigate risk, and develop strong relationships with IT colleagues to design, develop and test/implement technology platforms to deliver solutions to business requirements.<br>• Teamwork: collaborate with team members of all levels to complete daily tasks, share market and systems knowledge; develop best practice methodologies and approaches for business analysis; issue follow up and escalation.<br>• Developing relationships with clients (i.e., Counterparties, Traders, Origination, Legal, Credit, IT and Controllers): understanding the priorities of stakeholders to ensure that business needs are met, protecting client confidentiality will be essential, as well as addressing ad-hoc requests in a timely fashion.<br><br>Qualifications/Skills/Requirements:<br>• You are a rising undergraduate junior or sophomore pursuing your Bachelors Degree; all majors (disciplines)<br>are encouraged to apply.<br>• You have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.<br>• You have excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.<br>• Your attention to detail is strong, as are your analytical and problem solving skills.<br><br>Interview Process: Candidates selected from resume review will be invited to a first-round interview to assess<br>their interest in Operations and their communication skills. First-round interviews generally take place on campus<br>or by phone. Successful candidates will be invited to our final round of interviews (Assessment Center) with two<br>competency-based interviews, a group activity and interaction with Operations employees throughout the day.<br>Final round interviews take place either on campus or at Morgan Stanley offices.         <div class="html-content">Dr.  Martin Luther King, Jr.  once said:<br><br><span>One day we will learn that the heart can never be totally right if the head is totally wrong.  Only through the bringing together of head and heart - intelligence and goodness - shall man rise to a fulfillment of his true nature.</span><br><br>Take your positive experience of "intelligence and goodness" at UMBC and extend that to others.  Local community center Walden Circle is in need of an intern to serve on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-6:30 pm, to support after-school programming for youth.  <br><br>View the attached application and return it to Lori Hardesty, Assistant Director, Service-Learning at The Shriver Center (1st floor, Public Policy Building) or via email at <a href="mailto:lhardesty@umbc.edu">lhardesty@umbc.edu</a>.  <br><br>An intern has already been selected to serve Mondays and Wednesdays for the spring semester.  Applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.  In-person interviews will be scheduled soon after submission.  <br><br>If you have any questions, contact Lori Hardesty via email at <a href="mailto:lhardesty@umbc.edu">lhardesty@umbc.edu</a>.<br><br></div>
