The application for the Summer 2012 Department of State Internship Program has been extended to November 7th. Interested qualified students are encouraged to submit their application by the new deadline of Monday, November 7th. Individuals who have already submitted an application will be able to update, edit, and resubmit their application until the new closing date.

All applicants are encouraged to submit their application in advance of the closing date to avoid any complications which may be experienced due to heavy application volume in the final days and hours prior to the announcement closing.

Please come out to the National Residence Hall Honorary's 1st Nature Clean-Up.  We will be performing some much needed trail maintenance in McKeldin Park on Sunday, November 6th from 9am-1pm.  

All volunteers should arrive at The Commons Circle at 8:15am so that we can depart and arrive at the park by 9am.

Volunteers should wear long pants, close-toed shoes, and bring water.  We will supply the gloves and the equipment. 

We are in need of volunteers & drivers for the event, and the more drivers we have, the more people we can take.

Kop-Flex, operating since 1926, is a division of the Emerson Electric Co. which manufactures flexible rotating couplings for industrial applications. Located just 9 miles from UMBC near BWI, Kop-Flex offers students the opportunity to gain experience in mechanical design and manufacturing. Kop-Flex offers excellent opportunities for advancement, currently 7 of 13 engineers are former co-ops.

Co-ops will work closely with Product Engineers & mentors in the design of mechanical couplings. They will apply engineering knowledge to perform stress analysis, calculate coupling mass elastic data, produce coupling drawings, develop new and innovative products, and manage engineering projects. Project management may provide opportunities to interact with VP’s, managers, and customers. They will have the opportunity to interact with global employees and customers.

Research & Development – Support new product development and product improvement projects. Support product development engineers with design of experiments, implementing testing, and development of productivity tools.

Mill Product – Support design engineers with the design of heavy industrial couplings for steel mills, paper mills, and mining equipment. Support product development to improve coupling designs for heavy industrial couplings.

High Performance – Support engineers with the design of turbomachinery couplings for gas turbines, compressors, motors, and generators.  Support product development to improve coupling designs for turbomachinery couplings.

Required Credentials:
Mechanical engineering students, preferably 3rd year students willing to work F/T and take a semester off.  Will accept students part-time who can commit to at least 25 hrs per week.

The Institute is a two-summer leadership program for high-achieving black male college sophomores. Students receive high-level internships, participate in rigorous academic seminars, and meet influential leaders.
