Each summer we invite up to 16 exceptional students to participate in a 12-week program where they work together, and in teams, directly with NSA technical professionals on mission-critical cyber-related problems.<br><br><span>The goals of the Cyber Summer Program are to:</span><br>- Introduce our country's future leaders in cyber-related fields to the Agency's mission and share with them the excitement of working on problems of national importance,<br>- Provide a deep understanding of the vital role that computer science and engineering plays in enabling the Agency to tackle a diverse set of technical challenges,<br>- Encourage bright undergraduate computer science and engineering majors to continue their studies and pursue careers in the cyber-related fields,<br>and, of course, to<br>- Provide solutions to current operational problems.<br><br>The students participating in the program work on a broad range of problems involving applications of computer science and engineering.   During the first weeks of the summer internship, they are broadly exposed to NSA's cyber mission through a variety of lectures and tours.  The students are presented with eight current mission-driven problems and choose which problems they will focus on for the summer. The outstanding work accomplished by each student is documented in the CSP year-end report. Students learn and develop data analysis and exploitation techniques, apply what they learn to obtain real-time solutions, and experience the excitement of success built on hard work and innovation. All the students find the work at NSA very exciting and challenging.<br>    <br>Qualifications<br>- Must be a U.S. citizen<br>- Prefer a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale<br>- Must be eligible to be granted a security clearance<br>- The program is highly competitive and is intended primarily for undergraduate students between their junior and senior year, but exceptional freshman and sophomores will also be considered. Graduate students and graduating seniors will be considered too, but they must be enrolled in a graduate program for the fall.  In addition, students who have scored well in the various annual Cyber-related Competitions are invited to apply.<br>    <br><span>Pay, Benefits, &amp; Work Schedule</span><br><br>Housing: Housing accommodations can be arranged upon request.<br><br>Travel Reimbursement: Students who attend schools in excess of 75 miles from Fort Meade, MD are eligible for a round trip airline ticket to and from school, or mileage reimbursement up to the cost of a government issued airline ticket.<br><br>Salary: Students are paid a competitive salary based on their education.     </span></strong></p><p><strong><strong><em><span>The 6th Branch</span></em></strong><span> (T6B) is a 501(c)(3) started by veterans of OEF/OIF to bring skills and experience from the military to volunteerism in Baltimore City.  We believe that when presented with the opportunity and solid team to mentor, college-age citizens can step into leadership positions and make a </span></strong><strong><span>difference. </span></strong></p><p><span><strong>"Operation: Oliver" </strong>is a Veteran Sponsored Community (VSC) project that began in Fall 2011 </span>in Baltimore City's Oliver neighborhood, an area devastated by economic depression and crime, and made famous by television's <em>The Wire</em>.  Project goals include garbage removal, beautification, safety patrols, and the introduction of art into common spaces.  We hope to create a national model of what a VSC can accomplish.  In this case, it means bringing local businesses and community resources to the area to accomplish not just the short-term goals, but the larger goal of bringing a sense of community and involvement back to Oliver's residents.</p><p>The attached position description outlines some of the volunteer opportunities available through Operation: Oliver.  <strong><em>Contact Jeremy Johnson (<a href="mailto:jeremyj1@umbc.edu">jeremyj1@umbc.edu</a>) to learn more about the organization and to get involved! </em></strong></p><p>Students who volunteer with the program for 3-5 hours a week may be eligible for enrollment in the 096 Practicum, which provides a "Service-Learning" notation on a transcript.  Contact Clare Greene (<a href="mailto:clare6@umbc.edu">clare6@umbc.edu</a>) for more information on how to connect service with The 6th Branch with the 096 Practicum.  <strong>Hurry - deadline for Fall registrations is Thursday, October 6th!</strong></p>

  <Title>Seeking String Music Teachers and Interns for Fall 2011</Title>

    <div class="html-content">The Baltimore Talent Education Center, a program for Baltimore city students ages Preschool to High School, is undergoing an expansion of student enrollment and locations and has an immediate need for more Part-Time Teachers and Music Education Interns. Background in Suzuki-based instruction welcome, but not essential. Both positions would be in the classrooms.<br><br>BTEC is modeled on string curriculums such as the Peabody Preparatory School, and the Opus 118/Harlem School of Music. Long a part of the Baltimore City Public School System, in 1983 BTEC began as a magnet after-school and Saturday program for the entire city. A new staff has defined a direction for BTEC to include a headquarters at Northwestern High School, expansion to several City Public schools, collaboration with arts and civic organizations, along with new curriculum refinements to address specific educational goals. <br><br>The teachers we seek would generally work one or more of the 4-7 p.m. slots, Monday-Friday. Pay is $30/hour or course credit.
