HR Intern Still Needed at McCormick & Company Great Paid Internship located in Hunt Valley, MD McCormick & Company, Incorporated, a global leader in flavor, is seeking a part time Employment Center Intern in its centralized recruitment center (the MEC) located in Hunt Valley, MD.  The MEC is a part of Human Relations within the Corporate Headquarters Division of McCormick.  

This internship will start on or around October and end some time in mid February 2012.  The intern will work a flexible schedule for the month of October.  For the months of November to February, the intern will work Thursdays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Note that this is a paid internship, but housing expenses will not be covered.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
•    Posting job openings on McCormick’s internal board, external career site, and also on outside websites and job boards
•    Assisting with the maintenance and coordination of the administrative pre-employment process for new hires
•    Greeting and helping on site visitors, answering phones, and responding to general recruitment related inquires
•    Screening and pre-qualifying resumes for submittal for select entry level openings
•    Coordinating interviews and scheduling travel arrangements
•    Maintaining proper documentation in our Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and in hard copy files
•    Special projects/assignments as dictated by business needs

QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Enrollment as an undergraduate college Senior for the Fall 2011 OR enrollment in a relevant graduate school program for the Fall 2011 or Spring 2012 school year required
•    Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Human Resources or very closely related field required
•    Grade point average within major of 3.0 or better required
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills required
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required
•    Basic knowledge of Human Resource related practices, policies, and/or theories preferred

Make sure your graduation date and other profile information in UMBCworks accurately reflects your current status! 

When employers receive resumes, the first things they see are your name, major and graduation date as listed in the Profile section of UMBCworks.  If the information listed there is not accurate, most employers won't take the next step of looking at your resume.

This is particularly important for students applying for internships as many companies require prospective interns still be enrolled in school during the semester they are interning.  For example, if your graduation date on UMBCworks says December 2011, but you're not actually graduating until May 2012, many employers will assume that you are not eligible for Spring 2012 internships.  If you then apply to a Spring 2012 internship, at best, your resume may be ignored, at worst, the company may refuse to consider you for future positions as they will assume you are not fully reading their job descriptions.

The Cyber Summer Program (CSP) is the National Security Agency's premier outreach effort to the very best undergraduate and graduate computer science and engineering students in the country. Each summer we invite up to 16 exceptional students to participate in a 12-week program where they work together, and in teams, directly with NSA technical professionals on mission-critical cyber-related problems.

- Provide a deep understanding of the vital role that computer science and engineering plays in enabling the Agency to tackle a diverse set of technical challenges,
- Encourage bright undergraduate computer science and engineering majors to continue their studies and pursue careers in the cyber-related fields,
and, of course, to
- Provide solutions to current operational problems.

The students participating in the program work on a broad range of problems involving applications of computer science and engineering.   During the first weeks of the summer internship, they are broadly exposed to NSA's cyber mission through a variety of lectures and tours.  The students are presented with eight current mission-driven problems and choose which problems they will focus on for the summer. The outstanding work accomplished by each student is documented in the CSP year-end report. Students learn and develop data analysis and exploitation techniques, apply what they learn to obtain real-time solutions, and experience the excitement of success built on hard work and innovation. All the students find the work at NSA very exciting and challenging.
    
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Prefer a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
- Must be eligible to be granted a security clearance
- The program is highly competitive and is intended primarily for undergraduate students between their junior and senior year, but exceptional freshman and sophomores will also be considered. Graduate students and graduating seniors will be considered too, but they must be enrolled in a graduate program for the fall.  In addition, students who have scored well in the various annual Cyber-related Competitions are invited to apply.
    
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Housing: Housing accommodations can be arranged upon request.

Travel Reimbursement: Students who attend schools in excess of 75 miles from Fort Meade, MD are eligible for a round trip airline ticket to and from school, or mileage reimbursement up to the cost of a government issued airline ticket.

Salary: Students are paid a competitive salary based on their education. Salary range: $30,456 to $42,209.  In addition, you will receive sick and vacation leave, Federal holidays, and the ability to participate in Agency-wide extracurricular programs.

The 6th Branch (T6B) is a 501(c)(3) started by veterans of OEF/OIF to bring skills and experience from the military to volunteerism in Baltimore City.  We believe that when presented with the opportunity and solid team to mentor, college-age citizens can step into leadership positions and make a difference. 

"Operation: Oliver" is a Veteran Sponsored Community (VSC) project that began in Fall 2011 in Baltimore City's Oliver neighborhood, an area devastated by economic depression and crime, and made famous by television's The Wire.  Project goals include garbage removal, beautification, safety patrols, and the introduction of art into common spaces.  We hope to create a national model of what a VSC can accomplish.  In this case, it means bringing local businesses and community resources to the area to accomplish not just the short-term goals, but the larger goal of bringing a sense of community and involvement back to Oliver's residents.

Background in Suzuki-based instruction welcome, but not essential. Both positions would be in the classrooms.

BTEC is modeled on string curriculums such as the Peabody Preparatory School, and the Opus 118/Harlem School of Music. Long a part of the Baltimore City Public School System, in 1983 BTEC began as a magnet after-school and Saturday program for the entire city. A new staff has defined a direction for BTEC to include a headquarters at Northwestern High School, expansion to several City Public schools, collaboration with arts and civic organizations, along with new curriculum refinements to address specific educational goals.

The teachers we seek would generally work one or more of the 4-7 p.m. slots, Monday-Friday. Pay is $30/hour or course credit. Locations include:

•     Tuesdays: Southwest Baltimore Public Charter, Tunbridge Public Charter, Highlandtown E/M #237
