Pi Kappa Phi - Fall Rush 2017
#StrengthInDiversity
The Pi Kappa Phi chapter at UMBC is specifically geared
toward providing opportunities and creating futures for its members, through both
service and academics, as well as building friendships that will last far
beyond college. We encourage one another to strive for greatness in every
aspect of life and become more professional and better rounded individuals.
An important area where this chapter excels is our diversity. Among the brothers in our current chapter, we have student athletes, leaders and founders of academic and ethnic organizations, a diplomat, aspiring DJs and musicians, teachers, scientists, and so much more. We have people of a wide variety of majors, ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds, which allows us to stand out and excel as a whole.
Our Mission: To create an uncommon and lifelong brotherhood that develops leaders and encourages service to others for the betterment of our communities
Our Vision: A future where every Pi Kappa Phi embraces his role as a leader, puts service before self, and improves the world around him
ACADEMICS:
We currently hold above a 3.0 GPA in our chapter, which
consists of over 50 brothers. This GPA is among the highest of any social fraternity
on campus and has been rising in ranking for multiple semesters.
PHILANTHROPY:
Pi Kappa Phi is the only fraternity in the United States which has its own philanthropy, one we have coined ‘The Ability Experience.’ When people donate to The Ability Experience, they are donating to help those across the nation who are living with disability. As a chapter, we host regular fundraising events, participate in small and large scale projects, and even volunteer weekly at a local elementary school. This is a large part of who we are as a chapter and each and every brother does his part to contribute to this important cause.
SOCIAL:
Although we have a large focus on academics and philanthropy, we are a social fraternity at the end of the day. We have regularly scheduled socials with different sororities from UMBC as well as from other universities, host and attend countless social events, and have semesterly formals. There is no limit to the social opportunity that Pi Kappa Phi provides for its brothers.
RUSH SCHEDULE:
Monday (9/11): VOLLEYBALL CHILL & GRILL (5 PM – 8 PM)
This event will be held at the volleyball courts behind the Dining Hall. There will be volleyball, football, Frisbee, corn-hole, and other lawn games being played. We will have free burgers, hot dogs, and drinks for those attending. This is not only a convenient location for the majority of underclassmen, but also a great opportunity to meet brothers, show off your athleticism and social skills, and get something free to eat!
Tuesday (9/12): Milk and Cookies (5 PM – 8 PM)
Off Campus - Rides provided every 30 minutes @ the CIC
Come to one of our off campus houses and participate in one of our most exciting events, milk and cookies flip cup! There will be multiple teams in a bracket style competition. Rides will be provided every 30 minutes from the commons info desk, and rides back will be provided any time someone needs it. Don't miss this event, you'll regret it!
Wednesday (9/13): CHICKEN 4 CHARITY (5 PM – 8 PM)
Participate in an intense eating competition to see if you
can come out on top! Each contestant participating will have to see if they can
be the first to eat 10 chick fil-a nuggets. There will be 3-4 rounds and the
top 3 winners will receive a special prize. It will be $10 to enter, and all
proceeds will go to our philanthropy, The Ability Experience. This event can
get pretty disgusting, so bring a bib!
There will be plenty of people not participating, so come
out and enjoy getting to know some of the brothers even if this contest doesn’t
interest you!
Thursday (9/14): LASER TAG (5 PM – 8 PM) [INVITE ONLY]
You read that right. We will be bringing out select individuals to play a few rounds of tactical laser tag and talk to brothers in the off time. There will be pizza and drinks provided, as well as transportation there! Keep in mind that you will have had to attend at least 1 rush event before this in order to receive an invite.
Friday (9/15): Invite Only
