Message from the coordinator below:
For the students, the workshop will be an opportunity to learn about PhD studies in Industrial and Operations Engineering (what we study, what kind of research we do, what kind of academic and non-academic jobs our PhD graduate pursue), see our campus and town a bit, and also get some insight and advice about graduate school, and in particular, application and admissions process in general — something that would be useful for applying to any graduate program. And it will be mostly (and for many, entirely) on our dime.
For our own benefit, we are hoping to use this event to broaden our pool of applicants in the coming years, and in particular broaden their diversity in all senses of the word — demographic, personal backgrounds and perspectives, and academic backgrounds.
Acceptance into the workshop will be competitive (we are aiming to keep it relatively small to ensure an engaged and interactive experience), but the application is quite simple — a very short description of prior research experience (if any) and interests, plus some biographical information and a transcript — and due in a month. The website with more information and a link to an online application form is at

— I am also attaching a flyer with some of the info that can be printed out and posted and (since many students must be away from campus) forwarded to the students.
