I am writing to you as the Secretary of the Mathematics Section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The upcoming annual meeting of AAAS is February 14-17 in Washington, D.C. In order to increase the participation of mathematical scientists at this event, we are offering undergraduate and graduate mathematics students, as well as postdoctoral researchers, free conference registration. The only additional commitment in return is to attend the Mathematics Section meeting on Friday morning, which will feature presentations by the newly elected AAAS mathematics fellows. The conference program features over half a dozen scientific symposia with mathematical content, such as mathematics in biomedicine, information privacy, quantum computing, or computational reproducibility, in addition to many other cutting-edge topics.
I would appreciate it if you could bring this opportunity to the attention of your students and faculty. Anybody interested should email me (Reinhard Laubenbacher, laubenbacher@uchc.edu) for information on how to register.

This would be a great opportunity (owing to proximity and free-ness of registration) to participate in a scientific meeting in a low pressure situation. There will be a lot of interesting sessions that pertain to mathematical applications. PME may even consider doing this as a field trip. Please send me an e-mail or comment below if you are interested.
