A message from the UMBC Police
Heavy Traffic
On Friday, August 16, UMBC traffic will be
extremely heavy between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. due to several
on-campus events.
Please avoid traveling to and from campus
during these hours and/or use alternative entrances and exits to campus (see
below). Alternative work arrangements or schedules may be offered to employees
at their supervisors’ discretion in order to avoid high traffic periods. All
campus offices will remain open and services will continue to be offered.
FROM POINTS NORTH
Take 95 South to 695 West. Exit at MD-372
Wilkins Avenue (exit 12C-B). Continue on Wilkins Avenue to a left on
Walker Avenue then left on Hilltop Circle.
FROM POINTS SOUTH
Take 95 North to 195 West towards UMBC. If UMBC
Boulevard is backed up stay to your left towards the park and
ride and North Rolling Road. Make a right at North Rolling Road and then a
right onto Wilkins Avenue. At roundabout make a right onto Hilltop Road and
then left on Hilltop Circle.
FROM POINTS EAST &
WEST
Exit 695 to MD-372 Wilkins Avenue (exit 12C-B).
Continue on Wilkins Avenue to a left on Walker Avenue then left on Hilltop
Circle.

Update on upcoming external event at UMBC
Date correction and more detailed information
Based on feedback from members of the community, we wanted to follow up to clarify a few details and add a date correction regarding the upcoming on-campus external event at the UMBC Event Center.
The event will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each week, beginning tomorrow, Friday, July 12 and ending Sunday, August 18.
It is estimated there will be more than 5,000 attendees participating in the event over the next six weeks. In anticipation of heavier than normal traffic on the days we are open and the event takes place, UMBC police will be on-hand to direct traffic in all high-congestion areas. For alternative entrances and exits to campus, please see the details of our
previous post.
Parking for the event is reserved for Stadium Lot, Lot 24, and Commons Garage. Parking Services will be closely monitoring lots and spaces to ensure designated employee parking remains open to permit holders.
As a reminder, alternative work arrangements or flexibility in work schedules may be offered to employees at their supervisors’ discretion.

A Message from the UMBC Police
The UMBC Event Center will be hosting a large multi-weekend event that will potentially impact on-campus traffic for the next several Fridays. The event will be each Friday from July 12 through August 16. Expect heavy traffic on campus from 8:00 a.m to 9:00 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Please avoid travelling to and from campus during these hours and/or use alternative entrances and exits to campus (see below). A message from the UMBC Police
On Tuesday May 28th UMBC will be hosting the Severna Park High School Graduation at the Event Center. We are expecting extremely heavy traffic between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m coming onto campus and then from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. exiting campus. Please avoid travelling to and from campus during these hours and/or use alternative entrances and exits to campus (see below). Alternative work arrangements or schedules may be offered to employees at the discretion of the supervisor in order to avoid high traffic periods. All campus offices will remain open and services will continue to be offered.
FROM POINTS WEST

Congratulations to our 2019 graduates!
A message from the UMBC Police
On Thursday May 23rd UMBC will hold spring commencement for undergraduate
students at the Event Center. Extensive planning has taken
place for this special day with many departments and stakeholders.
Two commencements will take place
that day, one beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a second one beginning at 4:00
p.m. We are expecting extremely heavy traffic
between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m coming onto campus and then from 11:30 a.m. to
1:30 p.m. exiting campus. For the second commencement expect heavy
traffic between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. coming onto campus and then from 5:30
p.m. to 7:30 p.m. exiting campus. Please avoid travelling to and from
campus during these hours and/or use alternative entrances and exits to campus
(see below). Alternative work arrangements or schedules may
be offered to employees at the discretion of the supervisor in order to avoid
high traffic periods. All campus offices will remain open and services
will continue to be offered.
Graduates please share this
information with your friends and family members attending the graduation.

Off-Campus Strong Armed Robbery
Crime Alerts are issued by the UMBC Police to alert the campus community of incidents on or near Campus.
Incident:Robbery (no weapons involved)
Date/time:May 1st, 2019 at approximately 4:15p.m.
On May 1st at approximately 4:20p.m. the UMBC Police were notified by the Baltimore County Police of a robbery that had taken place near Campus. Three suspects approached the victim (non-student) from behind as he was walking in the area of 1150 Linden Avenue and demanded his money and cell phone.
Individuals with any information about the incident should call the Baltimore County Police at 410-887-0872.
Safety Tips:

Armed Robbery
Crime Alerts are issued by the UMBC Police to alert the campus community of incidents on or near Campus.
Incident: Armed robbery (Knife)
Location: Inner Hilltop Cir. between Commons Dr. & Admin. Dr.
Date/time: February 12, 2019 10 pm
On February 12 at 10 pm a male student was robbed and assaulted by two males, one had a knife, while walking to his vehicle. The males were described as African-american, 21 to 25 years of age. One was described as 6'0 tall with a deep voice and the other as 5'8. Both were wearing black hooded sweatshirts. Suspects fled on foot toward Commons Garage.

Hate/Bias Incident
UMBC tracks, investigates, and reports hate-bias incidents on our campus. Hate-bias incidents are acts that could be interpreted as expressions of hate or bias against a particular group or individual because of their membership, perceived or actual, in that group. These acts may range from those considered to be offensive to acts that threaten or cause physical harm. Such incidents are inconsistent with UMBC values, including our community’s respect for diversity and inclusion. We believe it is important to alert our campus community about these divisive and hurtful occurrences.

Date/Time: 12/27/18, 3:35 p.m.
Incident Description: A grad student observed an anti-Semitic symbol drawn in chalk on a chalkboard.

Hate Crime/Bias Incident
UMBC tracks, investigates, and reports hate-bias incidents
on our campus. Hate-bias incidents are acts that could be interpreted as
expressions of hate or bias against a particular group or individual because of
their membership, perceived or actual, in that group. These acts may range from
those considered to be offensive to acts that threaten or cause physical harm.
Such incidents are inconsistent with UMBC values, including our community’s
respect for diversity and inclusion. We believe it is important to alert our
campus community about these divisive and hurtful occurrences.

Date/Time: 12/17/18, 5:40p.m.
Incident Description: A student
observed anti-Semitic symbols drawn in yellow highlighter over bulletin board
postings.

please call the UMBC Police at 410-455-5555.
UMBC students, faculty, staff members or visitors who choose to violate
relevant policies and laws are solely responsible for their actions. University
authorities will make every effort to sanction individuals who violate those

Incident Description: A student observed an anti-Semitic username on the monitor in True Grit that displays songs being played by the app Rockbot.
