          <div class="html-content"><p>The UMBC Police Department issues Crime Alerts to protect members of the University community, to promote safety, and to help reduce vulnerability. </p><p>In accordance with the Clery Act, electric scooters and electric bicycles are classified as motor vehicles. </p><p><strong>Reported Incident: </strong><span>Motor Vehicle Theft</span></p><p><strong>Location: </strong><span>Retriever Activities Center (RAC) &amp; The Commons</span></p><p><strong>Reported Date/Time: </strong>February 27, 2024, 7:00 p.m. &amp; March 1, 2024, 8:00 a.m.</p><p><strong>Incident Description:  </strong>On 2/27/2024, an e-scooter was stolen from a bicycle rack outside of the RAC between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. </p><p><span>On 2/29/2024, an e-bike was stolen from outside of The Commons between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. <br></span></p><p>If you have any information about these incidents, please call UMBC Police at <strong>410-455-5555</strong>.<br><br></p><hr><p><em><strong><br>Safety Tips</strong></em></p><p>Victims are not to blame.           <div class="html-content"><p>The UMBC Police Department issues Crime Alerts to protect members of the University community, to promote safety, and to help reduce vulnerability.</p><p><strong>Reported Incident: </strong>Dating Violence, Robbery</p><p><strong>Location: </strong>On Campus Residence Hall</p><p><strong>Reported Date/Time: </strong>January 21, 2024, 12:30 p.m.</p><p><strong>Occurred Date/Time: </strong>January 21, 2024, 12:15 p.m.</p><p><strong>Incident Description: </strong>The suspect stole the victim's phone after physically assaulting and strangling the victim.</p><p>If you are in immediate danger, please call UMBC Police at <strong>410-455-5555 </strong><span>or 911</span>.<br></p><hr><p><em><strong><br>Relationship Violence Information and Resources</strong></em></p><ul><li>Relationship violence is never the victim's fault. The only person responsible is the abuser.</li><li>Physical violence is only a part of a larger pattern of abuse. This may also include emotional, sexual, and economic abuse. </li><li>Relationship violence is not just a momentary loss of temper. The abuser makes a conscious decision to abuse.           <div class="html-content"><p>The UMBC Police Department issues Crime Alerts to protect members of the University community, to promote safety, and to help reduce vulnerability.</p><p><strong>Reported Incident: </strong>Attempted Rape</p><p><strong>Location: </strong>Hillside Apartments</p><p><strong>Reported Date/Time: </strong>November 18, 2023, 12:56 a.m.</p><p><strong>Incident Description: </strong>UMBC Police received a report of an attempted rape on November 18, 2023 at 12:56 a.m. The reported incident occurred in the Hillside Apartments between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on November 17, 2023.</p><p>The victim was approached by an unknown male outside of the Commons and sexually assaulted in the victim's apartment.</p><p>If you have any information about this incident, please call UMBC Police at <strong>410-455-5555</strong>.<br><br></p><p><em>Bruce Perry '97, Chief of Police</em></p><hr><p><em><strong><br>Sexual Violence Information and Resources</strong></em></p><ul><li>Sexual assault is never the victim's fault. The only person responsible is the perpetrator.</li><li>The most common type of sexual assault occurs between individuals known to one another, including current or former intimate partners or acquaintances. </li><li>Alcohol and drugs are often used to create vulnerability. Studies of sexual assault incidents show a high correlation between non-stranger sexual assault and alcohol/drug use. </li><li>Contact the <a href="https://ecr.umbc.edu/resources-2/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Office of Equity and Civil Rights</a> for on campus sexual violence resources.</li></ul><p><em><strong>Consent</strong></em></p><div><ul><li>Consent is defined as a knowing, voluntary, and affirmatively communicated willingness to mutually participate in a particular sexual activity or behavior. </li><li>Consent cannot be obtained by force, threat, coercion, fraud, manipulation, reasonable fear of injury, intimidation, or through the use of one's mental or physical helplessness or incapacity.</li><li>Silence or lack of physical resistance does not equal consent.
