UMBC Police are Investigating a robbery reported Saturday night at 9:15 p.m. in the area of Hilltop Circle and Center Road. A student reported being approached by an individual asking a question who then demanded money. As of now, there is no indication that a weapon was involved.

Date/Time: August 19, 2022; 8:21 a.m.
Incident Description:
On August 19, 2022 at approximately 8:21 a.m., UMBC Police responded to Sondheim Hall for a report of destruction of property. The officer was advised by a Retriever Activity Center (RAC) staff member that an unknown person reported to them that there was graffiti, including a swastika, on the Sondheim Hall donor plaque. The plaque is located outside the building near the RAC entrance. The staff member called UMBC Police. Officers observed graffiti, including a swastika, written in black marker on the donor plaque. No further damage was found and the graffiti has been removed.

Crime Alert
Monday, July 25, 2022
At 8:47 a.m. this morning, while on rounds, a UMBC police officer witnessed an altercation between two individuals. When officers intervened in the situation, they discovered and secured two firearms. No weapons were discharged.
There is no active threat to campus at this time. The suspect is currently in custody with Baltimore County Police.

Since December 2021, UMBC Police have worked with the State Fire Marshal to investigate possible arson incidents reported in the Albin O. Kuhn Library, the Meyerhoff Chemistry Building, and Sherman Hall at that time.
Today, a suspect has been charged with second degree arson and arrested by the Maryland State Fire Marshal. We appreciate the support provided by the State Fire Marshal's Office and all UMBC colleagues who provided assistance in the investigation. UMBC Police will continue to monitor and support the progress of this case in the judicial system. We will keep the campus informed of the outcome.
]]>UMBC will conduct a test of the main campus and south campus sirens on Friday, 07/01 beginning at 12:30 PM. These tests are scheduled for the first Friday of each month. You can expect to hear a voice message over the loudspeakers followed by a short siren wail and then another voice message ending the test. UMBC will send a text alert and update social media to remind the community before each monthly test.
BGE is actively working on the outage affecting campus and has informed us that repairs will require several more hours to complete. They expect to have power restored sometime overnight. We will send a text update when power is restored so that vital systems and research equipment can be checked. We anticipate that campus will reopen at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, June 10.
