The UMBC/BCCC Refugee Youth Project VISTA partnership has designed and implemented College JUMP (Journey Upward Mentoring Program), a college access initiative for refugees.
UMBC undergraduate students volunteer as near-peer mentors to 11th and 12th grade refugee students in Baltimore City and County. Mentors and mentees meet on a weekly basis to go over college exploration, application, and preparation. They also participate in monthly events and/or workshops, aimed to expose students to various aspects of college life. Ultimately, College JUMP strives to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to gain admission and free prepared for success in post-secondary institutions.
This mentorship will enable your students to interact with new members of their community and have a positive impact on the lives of new, refugee youth. We are currently looking for more mentors for our large group of eager mentees! We are asking that you share this amazing opportunity with your students. You will find the College JUMP informational video and two-page info sheet attached.
