Lincoln Memorial University: Recap of October 23rd's Meeting DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine
At this Wednesday's meeting, Whitney Porter, the Director of Admissions at Lincoln Memorial University's DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine came in to give an overview of the osteopathic medicine program at the university. Some main points included:
  • differences/similarities between DO and MD
  • the campus locations in Harrogate, and Knoxville, TN that allows the college to better connect to the community and its mission to treat medically underserved populations, while providing more resources to students
  • details on the newer facilities on the recently-built Knoxville campus 
  • the college's commitment to DOs who are driven to serve humanity
  • a collaborative class structure with an emphasis on discussion-based learning
  • holistic education with a focus on good patient interaction through thorough training and simulations
  • a breakdown of the two phases of education: pre-clinical sciences and clinical experiences
  • resources provided to students, such as virtual classes and state-of-the-art anatomical models
  • details on opportunities and preparation for residency
  • other supplemental programs available to students, such as the Anatomy/OPP Scholars Program, which gives students more opportunities so apply their knowledge and have leadership positions
  • admissions requirements, which includes GPA, MCAT scores, clinical experience, and a commitment to service
  • collaborative student culture

Involvement Fest is this Monday, September 9th from 12-2PM in the RAC and we will be there to talk about our club, upcoming events and to answer all of your questions, so be sure to stop by!


Additionally, our first general body meeting will be this Wednesday, September 11th from 12-1PM in ITE102. In this meeting, we will have a meet and greet with the club officers and members, a quick Q&A and an overview of the club's plan for the semester.
