With the semester approaching, <strong>I wanted to remind you that <a href="https://lorishands.org/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Lori's Hands</a> is currently recruiting student volunteers and interns for the spring semester!</strong> This is a great opportunity for students interested in healthcare and/or aging, or for individuals looking to get involved in their community and build connections in Baltimore.</div>
          <div><br></div>
          <div><span><em>Lori’s Hands builds mutually beneficial partnerships between community members with chronic illness and college students, fostering empathy, connection, and resilience. Students provide practical assistance to support community members’ independence at home, and community members share their health and life experiences to support students’ learning.</em></span></div>

          <p><span>In 2023, we launched our first-ever Youth Policy Accelerator (YPA). The YPA is a youth leadership program that equips 10 outstanding young adults (18-25) with the skills, relationships, and experience to advance federal youth peer support policy.<br><br>Our inaugural YPA cohort helped shape mental health policy by conducting original research, meeting with policymakers, launching a national youth peer support policy coalition, and speaking on panels, at events, and town halls.<span> </span></span></p>
          <p><span><span><span>After the 2024 program, we took our learnings to make the YPA even better.<span> </span><strong>Now, we’re excited to launch this year’s YPA applications!<span> </span></strong></span></span></span></p>
          <p><span><span><span>The all-virtual YPA will take place from April 2025 - December 2025. In addition to receiving a $3,000 stipend, YPA members will:<span> </span></span></span></span></p>
          <ul>
          <li>
          <strong>Learn and apply skills:<span> </span></strong>Gain valuable experience working on mental health policy, research, and communications. This includes public speaking, agenda setting, policy research, coalition leadership, and campaign creation.<br> <span> </span>
          </li>
          <li>
          <strong>Influence federal policy and advance youth peer support:<span> </span></strong>Collaborate to develop policy priorities and strategy and meet directly with policymakers and advocates.<br> <span> </span>
          </li>
          <li>
          <strong>Grow their network</strong>: Build relationships with their cohort, policy experts, and MHA’s youth leaders network of over 150 program graduates with ongoing training and leadership opportunities.<span> </span>

  <Title>Research Participant Opportunity in Public Health</Title>

    <div><span>Do you or someone you know identify as a woman at least 18 years old, has at least one child under the age of 18, foreign born from a country in Western Africa, currently residing in the United States, able to consent, and able to complete a survey in English? Please consider participating in our project, Marginalized Motherhood: An Exploration of the Social and Demographic Determinants of Depression and Anxiety Among West African Immigrant Mothers in the U.S. </span></div>
    <div><span><br></span></div>
    <div><span>Researchers at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County are interested in investigating the correlates of depression and anxiety among immigrant West African mothers with at one child under 18 in the United States through a social determinants of health perspective. This research will serve to diversify the current research exploring maternal mental health as it impacts West African immigrant mothers and will be used to promote equitable healthcare delivery for this population in the United States.</span></div>

  <Title>Maryland Department of Health Public Health Workforce Development Program</Title>

    <p><span>About the Program: </span>This internship program aims to bolster the public health workforce at the Maryland Department of Health (MDH). This program seeks to introduce students to roles within public health and expose them to different subject areas. This practical experience will enhance the knowledge that students have gained from their studies and prepare them to enter the public health workforce. </p>
    <p><br><span>Eligibility: </span>This program is currently open to undergraduate (completion of at least 60 credit hours) and graduate students enrolled at an accredited college or university and in good academic standing.  Recent graduates (from an undergraduate or graduate program) may be accepted.  <br><br><span>Compensation: </span>Students will be paid ($16.50/hr undergraduate; $19.50/hr graduate).​​<br><br><span>Timeline: </span>The program will run for 12 weeks for the Spring term, from February 12, 2025 - May 6, 2025. The spring term will be part-time at a rate that averages between 10-20 hours per week. Students can work a maximum of 240 hours during the 12 weeks.​<br></p>
