  <Title>Intern with the Maryland General Assembly</Title>
  <Tagline>Spring 2025 for PBHL 470 credit</Tagline>

    <div>During the legislative session of the Maryland General Assembly (MGA), college students are given the opportunity to serve as legislative interns each year. Interested students apply and interview for placement with legislators, committees, caucuses, and delegations.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>SESSION</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>The Maryland General Assembly meets annually for a period of 90 calendar days,</div>
    <div>beginning the second Wednesday in January through early April. Internships are in-person at the Maryland General Assembly located in Annapolis and run from January 6 through April 11, 2025. The busiest days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.</div>

    <div>ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Interested students must be at least 18 years of age and have graduated high school; they must be presently enrolled in a public or independent college or university located in Maryland with a 3.0 grade point average or higher; and they must have competency in composition. Students must earn credit for</div>
    <div>the internship and be sponsored by a professor, advisor, or career services</div>
    <div>representative. Students must be able to commit to at least two full days weekly for the duration of the internship.</div>

    <p><span>Applications are now being accepted through <u>October 15<sup>th</sup></u> for an internship with the Maryland General Assembly’s Legislative Intern Program. These internships are in-person and located at the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis from January 6 through April 11, 2025.   <Title>MdPHA Internship</Title>
  <Tagline>Applications due August 31</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content">The Maryland Public Health Association (MdPHA) Internship Program provides an exceptional opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience and practical skills in the field of public health. This program is designed to offer meaningful learning experiences, mentorship, and professional development opportunities within our organization.<div><br></div>
    <div>
    <strong>Program Objectives:</strong> </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Skill Development: Interns will have the opportunity to develop and enhance their skills in areas such as research, data analysis, program evaluation, communications, advocacy, community outreach, and project management. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Public Health Practice: Interns will work on real-world public health projects and initiatives, gaining practical experience and exposure to various aspects of public health practice. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Mentorship: Interns will be paired with experienced public health professionals who will serve as mentors, providing guidance, support, and feedback throughout the internship period.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Networking: Interns will have the opportunity to network with professionals in the public health field, including staff members, partner organizations, and community stakeholders. </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Professional Development: Interns will participate in workshops, seminars, and training sessions designed to enhance their professional skills and prepare them for future careers in public health.</div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Compensation: This hybrid internship program will have a paid and unpaid option. Students may apply for an hourly wage of $17 with an estimated 10-15 hours anticipated OR apply to receive academic or internship/practicum requirement completion. Interns may be eligible for academic credit if approved by their educational institution. Additionally, interns will gain valuable experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities that can contribute to their professional development and future career goals. </div>

    <div>Note: For students interested in earning both a stipend and credit hours will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If interested please note this on your application in the appropriate field.  (this internship qualifies for PBHL 470)</div>

  <Title>Volunteer with Lori's Hands</Title>
  <Tagline>Fall positions are still open!</Tagline>

    <p><span>Lori’s Hands builds mutually beneficial partnerships between community members with chronic illness and college students, fostering empathy, connection, and resilience. Students provide practical assistance to support community members’ independence at home, and community members share their health and life experiences to support students’ learning. </span><span>Lori’s Hands envisions a more equitable world in which every person can age with dignity and interconnection in their community and in which every person’s strengths are appreciated and shared.</span></p>
    <p><span><br></span><span>We receive client referrals from home healthcare agencies, providers’ officers, and community organizations. A good fit for Lori’s Hands is someone who is living at home, has a diagnosed chronic illness, could benefit from help with non-medical household activities, and is willing to teach and engage with our students. We are currently accepting client referrals in Newark, DE, Baltimore, MD, and Metro Detroit, MI.</span></p>
    <p><span><br></span><span>We recruit, train, and foster opportunities for college students to participate in Lori’s Hands through service learning courses, community clinical rotations, internships, pre-med and pre-Physician’s Assistant contact hours, and through our student club. We track student activities using a smartphone app. We are currently recruiting students in Newark, DE, Baltimore, MD, and Metro Detroit, MI. </span><span>Lori’s Hands student volunteers visit their assigned clients each week. Students visit in pairs. Students help with housework, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and other household activities. Clients help students understand the experience of living with a chronic illness, navigating the healthcare system, or aging in place. Interested in volunteering?   <Title>Malaria No More Communications Internship</Title>
  <Tagline>Washington DC, remote, 20 hrs per week</Tagline>

    <p>The Communications Intern will join a highly creative and dynamic communications team working to advance Malaria No More’s domestic and global communications strategy and advocacy objectives. The selected candidate will work across U.S. and international programs to assist in the execution of a comprehensive digital communications strategy. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in global health, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.</p>
    <p>The position is open to current students and recent graduates.</p>

  <Title>Maryland Department of Health Workforce Development</Title>

    <p><span>About the Program: </span>This internship program aims to bolster the public health workforce at the Maryland Department of Health (MDH). This program seeks to introduce students to roles within public health and expose them to different subject areas. This practical experience will enhance the knowledge that students have gained from their studies and prepare them to enter the public health workforce. </p>
    <p><br><span>Eligibility: </span>This program is currently open to undergraduate (completion of at least 60 credit hours) and graduate students enrolled at an accredited college or university and in good academic standing.  Recent graduates (from an undergraduate or graduate program) may be accepted.  <br><br><span>Compensation: </span>Students will be paid ($16.50/hr undergraduate; $19.50/hr graduate).​​<br><br><span>Timeline: </span>The program will run for 12 weeks for the Fall term, from September 25 - December 17, 2024. The fall term will be part-time at a rate that averages up to 20 hours per week. Students can work a maximum of 240 hours during the 12 weeks.​<br></p>

    <p>The Association of American Medical Colleges is a not-for-profit association dedicated to transforming health care by supporting the entire spectrum of medical education, medical research, patient care, and community collaborations conducted by our member institutions.     <p><br>  The AAMC’s Office of Government Relations (OGR) team is responsible for advocating on behalf of the nation’s medical schools and teaching hospitals to “improve the health of all” (from the AAMC mission statement). This includes covering a broad range of issues that impact these members, including in the areas of COVID-19 response, medical research, clinical care, health equity, and education. OGR staff work closely with policymakers in the Administration and in Congress, as well as government relations staff at member institutions.</p>
    <p><br><span><span><span>Why us, why now:</span></span><span> </span></span></p>
    <p><span><span>The Office of Government Relations Health Policy Intern will work closely with the association’s lobbyists on issues that </span><span>impact</span><span> medical schools and teaching hospitals and their patients and communities. This includes following key pieces of legislation, </span><span>representing</span><span> the AAMC at virtual briefings, hearings, and other meetings, and summarizing key information for AAMC staff and members.
