Dr. Davis is Professor of Urban Studies and Anthropology Director, Center for the Study of Women and Society at the Graduate Center City University of New York. The lecture will be followed by a question and answer session, and an opportunity to meet (virtually) with Dr. Davis.</p>

Join us for activities on and off campus that celebrate public health wherever you are. Everyone has the potential to improve the health of the public and make the world a more equitable, safe, healthy, and just place. <div><br></div>
    <div>Join our virtual scavenger hunt and share your photos that communicate what public health means to you. Student org panels will be choosing one photo each day that interprets the theme in the most meaningful way. Winners will each receive a <strong>$10 Starbuck gift card</strong>. At the end of the week we will hold a random drawing for an additional <strong>$10 Starbucks gift card.</strong> 1 photo = 1 entry.   <Title>Columbia University BEST Summer Internship</Title>

    <p>Columbia University is extending a special invitation to UMBC students interested in the Biostatistics Epidemiology Summer Training (BEST) program. Summer residents will receive training and enrichment opportunities in biostatistics and epidemiology, designed to increase diversity in the public health workforce. Columbia is extending the deadline for qualified UMBC students. Contact Professor Birger (<a href="mailto:katie.birger@umbc.edu">katie.birger@umbc.edu</a>) if you are interested so we can expedite your application! BEST graduates are well positioned to enter graduate programs in the <span>Columbia University </span><span>Mailman School of Public Health.</span></p>
    <p><strong>Eligibility Criteria</strong><br></p>
    <p>Applicants must represent one of the following groups: </p>
    <ul>
    <li><p>Racial/ethnic minorities (African-Americans, Hispanic/Latino-Americans, Native Americans or Alaskan Natives)</p></li>
    <li><p>Have a disability or physical impairment</p></li>
    <li>
    <p>Economically disadvantaged; these include:</p>
    <ul>
    <li><p>Students currently receiving or who in the past have received: federal disadvantaged assistance, Health Profession Student Loans (HPSL) for Disadvantaged Student Program, or scholarships from the U.S. DHHS under the Scholarship for Individuals with Exceptional Financial Need.</p></li>
    <li><p>Students from social, cultural, or educational environments that have demonstrably and recently directly inhibited the individual from obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to develop and participate in a research career.</p></li>

    <p>Qualified applicants to the program must:</p>

    <li><p>Be enrolled and have completed at least one year of undergraduate work at an accredited school or university OR be enrolled at a community or junior college, completing at least 3 courses per academic term.</p></li>
    <li><p>Have completed at least <strong>1 semester of college calculus</strong> at time of application (AP credit meets the requirement) </p></li>
    <li><p>Must be a U.S. citizen OR U.S. permanent resident.</p></li>
    <li><p>Complete and submit a program application by March 15, 2022 (deadline extended for UMBC students).</p></li>
    <li><p>Possible phone interview with a member(s) of the BEST admissions committee (following application submission)</p></li>
