On April 21, 2017, Dr. Trent-Adams, PhD 2006, UMBC, was appointed as Acting Surgeon General. In this capacity, she serves as the nation’s Doctor, providing Americans with the best scientific evidence available on how to improve their health and reduce the risk of illness and injury. Dr. Trent-Adams oversees the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, an elite group of more than 6,700 uniformed officer public health professionals working throughout the federal government whose mission is to protect, promote and advance the health of the U.S. Prior to this new appointment, Dr. Trent-Adams was appointed Deputy Surgeon General in 2015.
