Understanding Institutional Support for STEM Students

The purpose of this study is to understand the experiences of undergraduate STEM students and their perceptions of institutional support and sense of belonging.  You will be asked to complete an online Qualtrics survey that will take approximately 10-15 minutes. The survey includes questions about your perceptions of support from faculty, staff, advisors, and other personnel at UMBC, your sense of belonging in STEM, and some demographic information. Following the survey, you will be asked if you would like to participate in a 90-minute virtual focus group, where you will talk with a small group of other participants about your experiences with institutional support and sense of belonging. 

To participate in this study, you must be in at least your junior year of college (Including transfer students who have at least 60 credit hours and have been at UMBC for at least one academic year). You must also identify as a STEM major. 

Majors in STEM include Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, & Psychology BS.

Participants who complete the survey and focus group will be given a $15 Gift Card in exchange for their time.

Hello, I am a junior at UMBC and a media communications major. A few friends of mine and I are hoping to create a club dedicated to the tabletop strategy game, Heroclix! For those of you not familiar with the game, to summarize in one sentence: its a tabletop strategy game where you control a group of your favorite heroes or villains from Marvel and DC comics and you battle against an opponent with a similar team! This is a great game if you ever had a what if question such as what if Captain America fought Batman or what if Iron Man went head to head with Superman! We will be providing pieces for those starting off and there are not going to be any cash or physical prizes since this will be a casual club! For those worrying about playing against experienced members, we will keep the point value at 300 to 500 but nothing above 500! The rent for the single room will be between $400-$450. The house is fully furnished except for the bedroom ( I do have some extra furniture that can be used for free). 
The neighborhood is very friendly and most of the houses are owned by families with small kids.
