Hello UMBC Community,
In light of the recent class action lawsuit brought in part against UMBC due to mishandling of rape reports, The Retriever is reaching out to students who experienced sexual violence on campus. We would like to know your stories, including whether or not you decided to go to UMBC police with your case, and the results of reporting your case.
Sexual harassment, assault and rape are prevalent crimes on university campuses, which is why universities must comply with Title IX law. UMBC claims that “the University responds to reports of sexual harassment, including sexual violence, as part of its efforts to stop the harassment and prevent the recurrence of possible discrimination,” but recent evidence contradicts this statement. Students can find a description of Title IX policies on the Policies and Procedures page of UMBC’s Human Resources page.
