Trans AFTER College
Monday, Feb, 26, 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Commons: Skylight Room
This event is for trans+ students, staff, and faculty and their cisgender
allies. At this panel event, invited guests will talk about their experiences of being trans and/or gender variant in their personal and professional lives post-college and will provide good practices for trans inclusion in our daily lives. This event is followed by the Trans In College event hosted last fall and is intended to complement the previous discussion. Note: You did not have to attend the fall event to attend this spring semester event. A reception will take place after the panel discussion and attendees are encouraged to continue the dialogue and network with each other.

One Million Acts of Good Campaign
UMBC was selected as one of 50 schools to participate in the One Million Acts of Good campaign in partnership with Ellen and Cheerios. UMBC Dining Services is being sent 300 MATTERboxes and supplies for a speed volunteering event set to occur on March 1st at True Grit’s from 12pm-2pm.
The boxes consist of snacks, cereal, stickers, YOU MATTER notes, and more, and will be packed and donated to local charities.
We are encouraging 24 students to sign up in shifts for this volunteering event here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0f4fafab29a2fc1-onemillion
We will also be promoting shirt giveaways leading up to the event asking students to post on social media how they “do good” and tag #OneMillionActsOfGood and #UMBCgood

"PRAC102 - Building Skills for Career Success"Who is Eligible? ALL UMBC
Student Employees who are working a minimum of 8 hours per week on campus. It is open to all levels and majors.
Purpose of the Practicum: To help
student employees enhance and showcase their skills in the workplace at UMBC.

Background on PRAC 102As you know, making connections between campus jobs and both academic lives and future careers is really about seeing transferable skills. Through this practicum,
students will not only make those connections but learn how to articulate those connections to help them in resume writing and interviewing for jobs.
Students will also attend and reflect on workshops that help them develop skills they are using on the job now and in the future. This zero credit course will appear on their academic transcript.

How to be a Better Ally: Black Male Youth
Tuesday, February 20, 4 - 5:30 p.m. in Commons: 329
This co-facilitated workshop series that focuses on various
underrepresented and/or marginalized populations. Our goal of the series is to provide UMBC community members with the basic practices for allyship, specifically for the highlighted target population. This workshop session will highlight best practices to be allies to Black male youth after a brief discussion on the Black Male Youth experience. All undergrads, grads, staff and faculty are encouraged to attend!
Mundo Lingo: Conversation Café Deluxe
Wednesday, February 21, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the Commons: Gameroom
An expansion of the ELI’s Conversation Café which is an open meeting,
where any student can come for casual conversation, learn more about the Mosaic, and fun group activities. Snacks, games, and ice-breaker activities will be provided and then attendees are left to freely converse in an informal atmosphere. Community Engagement intern opportunity now available!
Position Title: Community Engagement Intern
Position Type: Part-time, Undergraduate
General Description: The Community Engagement Intern works with the
Residential Education and Leadership Coordinator to create opportunities for
resident-led community engagement. The Intern will assist with the development
and implementation of the Residence Life Student-Led Initiative program and
will work collaboratively with Community Councils to increase student
engagement and collaboration within residential areas and beyond.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate marketing and application process for the
Student-Led Initiative program
- Assist in the
development of collaborative programming initiatives with campus partners,
including, but not limited to, student organizations
- Serve as chair for the
Community Involvement Committee to support large-scale social and weekend
initiatives
- Assist with marketing
and promotion for the Residential Curriculum. This may include, but is not
limited to, Move-In/Move-Out, Orientation, Homecoming, and other
campus-wide strategies
- Support and encourage
student leaders in the development of an effective Community Council
- Support Resident
Assistants serving as Community Council Liaisons
- Assist with training and
leadership development for the Community Council Leaders throughout the
academic year
- Serve as a resource for
the Community Council in the planning and implementation of strategies and
events for the residential community.
Minimum
Qualifications:
● Must exhibit good written
& verbal communication skills
● Must have proactive work
habits
● Must be committed to being a
role model and making a positive impact on the UMBC community
● Must have and maintain a
minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and may not be on conduct probation
● Must be willing to work for
the entire semester for at least 8 hours/week
● Must be a full-time,
matriculating student at UMBC
● Must be able to commit to 2
academic semesters (preferred, Fall and Spring semesters)

What's happening around campus?
The Residential Life Selection Committee will be partnering with The Career Center to host a "How to Win at Interviewing" session, Friday, February 2, 2018 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm Community Center Multipurpose Room. This event is for all paraprofessional candidates for the 2018-2019 academic year.
They will be sharing interview tips, stress management strategies, and some questions that will be used during the interview process. The Committee will also be sending out a comprehensive information sheet to candidates after the event so highlights can be shared with those who may be unable to attend. Snacks will be provided.
Put on your black and gold and cheer on your Retrievers!
It's official, the UMBC EVENT CENTER opens Saturday, February 3rd at 4:00pm for UMBC Men vs. Vermont and come back Thursday, February 8th at 7:00pm for UMBC Women vs. Binghamton!
