Project Description
I've been in a few discussions recently in which we've noted the benefit/usefulness of having student group and student attribute information displayed in the Advising Profile. There is a general consensus that having this information available in the Advising Profile would be extremely helpful to the academic/faculty advisor. For example, knowing that the student was admitted to the accelerated bachelors/masters program (student group) would help the advisor in guiding the student on their course selection in their junior and senior years. Another example that came of this week was the attribute for veterans. Knowing the student was a veteran (self reported by the student) would help the advisor in recommending some useful resources such as our vet-2-vet program.

Display of class meeting patterns on class permission pages. Although section and class numbers do show on these pages, instructors and dept admins find it difficult to make sure they are granting permissions for the correct sections when a class has many offerings, and the group feels having this data on the page instead of also having to refer to the schedule would help make the task easier.

SAAAC - Open up advising notes for students

Project Description
Purpose of this project is to create a focus group to analyze and recommend an approach that allows students to view their advising notes, if at all. The outcome of this project, assuming it moves forward, will be a scope definition of how UMBC should roll out advising notes to students and communicate the change(s) and intended purpose to the UMBC community.

Some questions that were brought up by the committee include:
1) should all notes be available
2) should the student take the notes or should / could the notes be bi-directional
3) will opening up the notes to students change the purpose of advising notes, if so what should be the stated purpose of the notes be
4) Should there be a notes indicator that allows an Adviser to suppress the note from appearing in the students view
etc...

SAAAC - Syllabi Archiving

Project Description
What is the syllabi archive initiative?

An initiative that will provide faculty with a mechanism to post syllabi for each course/each semester that would be archived into a central repository. The syllabi archive would be made accessible to individuals with a UMBC login. While it is not possible to establish a formal policy requiring all faculty to post syllabi at the end of each semester (intellectual property rights issues), it has been deemed important to pursue a mechanism to make the option available.

Some background: In Spring 2013, the SGA reached out to the ASEC and the ASAC to request consideration of a policy (require faculty to post syllabi) much like the one recently passed at the University of Maryland, College Park. Following various conversations, ASEC and ASAC agreed to support SGA in the initiative with the understanding that this will only be pursued as a technical option - not a formal policy.

Mobile enable the SA system to allow students and eventually faculty the ability to perform SA transactions via a mobile friendly environment.

This will be a phased approach and the dates are TBD
Phase I - Funding and Timeline
Phase 2 - Plan a phased roll out that includes enrollment activities being the first roll out
Future phase will be determined by phase 2's planning activities in close collaboration with stakeholders.

Status Summary: When we surveyed the SAAAC group they mentioned that permissions would be the one functionality that would be most used. This will require customization. Other features that can be made available now would be grade rosters, class roster, view my advisees, unofficial transcripts and student view of their record.

As a next step, we would like to recommend to the committee a soft launch of the delivered faculty mobile functionality.

SAAAC - Satisfying Two Requirements Look Up

Project Description
While trying to help a student find a course that would satisfy two requirement types (SS and WI), I was disappointed to discover that adding a second line under "requirement" did not give me a list of courses that satisfy BOTH requirements. Instead, I got a list of courses that would satisfy EITHER requirement.

It would be much more useful if that feature searched for BOTH, rather than EITHER because looking for either can easily be done with two separate searches, while searching for BOTH requires clicking EACH and every course link to see if both attributes are included.

Exploring REX reporting as a solution. Will be delivered once MAP is discontinued. MAP retirement date has not been determined.
