The Director of Special Projects & Flagship Initiatives is responsible for overseeing, advising, and mentoring the leaders of SGA's most important initiatives including (but not limited to) Prove It! and Election Night Extravaganza. They will facilitate meetings, set strategies for large scale projects, and develop plans to sustain these initiatives for the foreseeable future.
The Associate Director of Special Projects & Flagship Initiatives, Prove It! is responsible for implementing SGA's annual idea competition, Prove It! This flagship initiative awards up to $10,000 to student groups that are seeking to to bring positive change to campus. The Associate Director will work with campus administrators to create a vetting process that determines the practicality of the submitted initiatives, administer the Prove It! election, determine how the program can be improved, and develop plans to sustain this initiative for the foreseeable future.
The Associate Director of Special Projects & Flagship Initiatives, Election Night Extravaganza is responsible for implementing SGA's biannual event, Election Night Extravaganza. Election Night Extravaganza has historically occurred only in alignment with Presidential election cycles, but this year we are expanding it to midterm elections. The Associate Director will work with student leaders from The Student Events Board (seb), College Democrats, College Republicans, The Resident Student Association (RSA), and other politically-engaged student organizations on campus to deliver programming around the 2018 Elections. Election Night Extravaganza will take place on Election Day (November 6th), where SGA will take over The Commons with programming throughout the building. Additionally, the Associate Director will organize other relevant programming before and after Election Day including expanding the Coffee & Conversation series, voter registration drives, and other initiatives that promote civic engagement. Lastly, the Associate Director will be working closely with staff and administrators from the Division of Student Affairs to build on UMBC's culture of civic engagement.
