The Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland is looking for college interns interested in learning more and contributing to raising awareness about issues affecting Maryland’s African-American communities.

The interns will help by researching current issues, attending and preparing summaries of legislative hearings, and supporting Caucus activities. Communications interns will be instrumental in telling the story Maryland's African-American communities.

Interns will also be exposed to the work of a legislative caucus. They will gain experience to be more competitive in the job market. Interns will have opportunities to attend hearings, meetings centered on education, policy, and related subjects.

The internship is ideal for students who are interested in public policy, HBCU funding, education reform, and family and community outreach. Interns should have excellent writing skills, research capabilities, be detail oriented, and the ability to work on a team and individually.

Interns will be expected to work 12-20 hours a week. Ideally, an intern will be available, at minimum, three days per week including Thursdays 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., January–May 2013. The internship is located in the Lowe House Office Building, Annapolis, MD. Interviews will be conducted December 10-14, 2012.
